There are a few Hall of Famers and other very accomplished players who were UDFAs, so I don't know if Romo would be No. 1 at this point.

For instance, Kurt Warner would probably be considered the best UDFA QB at this point, having won two Super Bowls and named league MVP twice.

Wasn't Johnny Unitas an UDFA?

How do all these 'bona-fide, real GMs' out there miss out on all these undrafted FAs?:)

The NFLN Top 10 list was

10. Wayne Chrebet
9. Tony Romo
8. Rod Smith
7. Antonio Gates
6. Warren Moon
5. Adam Vinatieri
4. Marion Motley
3. John Randle
2. Night Train Lane
1. Kurt Warner

That's not a bad list. I expect it was from a while back though as Weller isn't listed. Romo would likely be a bit higher now. This probably was like 5 or more years ago. Some of you gotta get off the persecution thing

There are definitely others that deserve consideration as well. Lots of good players have started as UDFAs. I'm just glad we were able to find a Pro Bowl-caliber QB to end that merry-go-round after Aikman.

Leary might be a similar caliber pickup at the guard position.

One guy not on this list that I thought was pretty amazing was Priest Holmes.

He had a 3 year run where he averaged 2100-2300 yards rushing/receiving and 20-25 TDs.

Is Romo the best ever UDFA in NFL history?
I could see an ESPN or NFLN biased top 10 coming along...or maybe not, because they can't have a list where a Dallas Cowboy is truly #1....

I'd give that one to Kurt Warner based on Super Bowl wins and appearances alone, but it's close. Romo has been consistently great throughout his career. Warner was better when he was at a peak, but don't forget that he lost his job to 3 different rookies after having won a Super Bowl (Bulger in STL, Eli in NY, Leinart in Zona). The lows were really low for Warner but the highs were GOAT level. Whereas Romo was a Pro Bowler every year of his career.

He won 1, played in 3. Beat Tennessee, lost to New England and Pittsburgh.

I love Romo but let's not get carried away. He's made it to 3 Pro Bowls I believe, not every year of his career.

I mean Pro Bowl caliber every year. Whereas Warner was greatest of all time caliber sometimes and can't beat out a rookie sometimes.

The full-court press Dallas put on to sign Leary after passing on OL in that draft has been well worth it.

He has been good. I didn't think he'd amount to anything, definitely seems like I whiffed on that one.
