United Airlines new slogan

I don't understand the "excessive" part of this force thing. I get that United was wrong, yada yada. I wouldn't argue that. However, if the man is required to get off (for whatever right or wrong reason) but refuses to do so, what other method is there? Especially when he resists? I'm not sure what lesser level of force would have been effective.

I hear ya but I'm hearing that they (United) won't be able to use their fine print/contract/plane ticket to get away with it.

United just won be able to skate because it says so in five print.

Also, flight was not overbooked. It was sold out.

Those seats were for employees not two people with flight reservations.

Ultimately, it's a big mess.
Whichever was it goes... it goes.

There is no denying no that there is a moral decay happening.
No one offered to help... just break out your phone and record.

It's the way of things.

If it's available to your family as an alternate carrier, consider Southwest next time. You have the freedom to sit anywhere but it's advantageous to get everyone onboard as quickly as possible though. :p
Odd, bc I hate SW for that very reason, not that United would be better. It felt like yelling fire in a movie theater, people were trampling over each other for good seats and to ensure they could sit with family/friends, etc. I basically played Fullback to ensure we sat together. "And as for your grandmother, she shouldn't have mouthed off like that!"
:D

lol. How many relatives were in your boarding party?

Just two, but they were elderly and even I was a bit overwhelmed by the urgency of the other passengers; went into protection mode, etc. More laughed after the fact, but was just more surprised at this lazy policy and see it's even worse regarding United. Stickin with Jet Blue and Direct TV whenever possible.

Odd story all around but not sure why the guy thinks he can just squat on a plane and refuse to leave. Yeah, sucks for him and I'm empathetic for him in being inconvenience but I'm sure United has the right to refuse someone/him service. So not sure the case this guy has against United. Possibly the security that removed him.

Unless he owns the plane, and the contract he signed has no outs for the owner, he should get his crazy rear off the plane politely.

No, UA chose him bc they overbooked their own flight and needed more room for their own staff on a connecting flight. Evidently, when you are chosen "at random" to be delayed, you will be physically assaulted if you don't oblige. They asked for 4 volunteers to be delayed, but only 2 offered, so they chose him at random to be delayed another day. He refused, they dragged him off the plane. How is this voluntary? That's where they're talking out of both sides of their mouths. He'll get paid.

That is craziness. They should have accommodated you.
Passengers should do the right thing when it comes to kids.

I asked myself this question... so I'll ask you the same.

Would you just let them drag you off to ensure most $$$

Or

Would you punch each of them in the face as they dragged you out maybe not ensuring the money $$$

In the moment I probably couldn't stop myself from hitting back.
Premeditated... I might (hold back)

I don't know, I am really laid back but do not piss me off. I probably would have started throwing haymakers once I got dragged :(

I don't think it would have mattered money-wise if I threw punches in the end....I would get paid. Imagine a father leaving behind two young kids to fly by themselves halfway across the country.

I don't know if I would ever label it as a lazy policy. Every flight contains passengers who would enjoy 'better' seats for themselves and those they fly with. While it's pathetic that customers cannot always retain the seats they review and purchase in advance of a flight, it's a known fact keeping a pre-purchased seat on non-Southwest flights is like playing the roulette wheel--with the airline placing the bets.

True, there is the hustle-and-bustle of getting seats on Southwest flights. It's a shame anytime there is a physicality involved simply to sit on a plane. However, all Southwest passengers know that whatever seat they settle into after boarding is their own until they get up and de-board at their destination. I believe more customers are satisfied getting and keeping the best seat they end up with than the number of customers who pay for seats they search and choose but can potentially and sometimes get screwed out of by the airline.

Just my opinion. I've flown on several airlines. Personally I have reservations about all of them, including Southwest, concerning different aspects of traveling with them but I disagree about the seating. Maybe I would have a different opinion if I was super wealthy and always purchased first-class seats so special that the airline wouldn't dare bothering me with having. Then again, if I was filthy rich, I wouldn't fly on commercial airlines anyway!

Good Points DE, I guess in my selfish bubble I found it inconvenient but can definitely see your point that the issue was rather minuscule/petty all things considered; you're getting to your destination in a pretty convenient manner...a Louis CK joke comes to mind regarding this. And tbh, I hadn't flown SW bf so it was more of a "is this for real?" in regards to the seating policy, but now that I know, it wouldn't throw me the same way. It was a bit of an odd feeling, like I was sitting among my competition the rest of the flight; "didn't I trip/hop over you on the way in?"

Southwest has gotten better over the years but it is still like a cattle-call. If I am flying alone or with my wife or a friend....I have no problems flying with them. I will choose them over United now every day of the week because of what I went through and not because of this guy getting dragged off.

I know what you mean. I do honestly admit that, even while standing in the terminal, pre-boarding on a Southwest flight does feel to me like being herded like cattle. Yee haw! :D

Indeed your situation would be different than his.

I just want to say that I hope this guy gets a lot of $$$$$ and put a hurting on United's pocketbook. That airline has gone down drastically, they pack us in like sardines and the customer service is pretty much non-existent.

A few weeks ago, I flew with my two little ones(no wife, just us 3) to Houston for a few days. I bought the tickets months in advance with no choice to pick seats at the time. Well, needless to say, once I got the boarding passes I discovered us in three different areas of the plane. The last row, one seat in the middle and another one about 8 rows up.

What is that nonsense? Buy three tickets together but get three different locations with two girls under the age of 6?? The woman at the boarding gate pretty much ignored my request to sit us together. Common sense should slap them in the face to place an adult with two children in the same row when the tickets are purchased.

Same thing on the way back to LA, three separate seats but at least all within 10 rows of one another. It is a pita to control two kids on a plane when you are not near them. I asked people both ways to switch so I can be with them and not one person offered to move.

I sure wish they would have picked my name to be removed from that flight.......I would have put up a fight and be about $200 million richer

You can go on-line and switch the seats....

I would think he would have more of a case for United, and not security. But I'm not really sure he should have a case beyond the "breach" of contract and inconvenience of not being able to be on the flight he paid for.

As far as I can tell the security/police were just removing someone who had been asked to leave and he would not comply. His injuries appear to be from his resistance.

This was a lose lose for everyone . The united employees should have the option of increasing the bribe to entice more passengers into taking another flight ..
Look how much this has cost United/ millions in lost stock value / probably 100s of thousands in ticket sales/ just refunding the entire plane load was a lot of money . So how smart are the policy makers for this organization, not very in my opinion. How about 2k to give up your seat and some free tickets, they potentially would have a herd trying to get off the plane, instead some dum *** decides to drag an old guy off.. common sense is gone in corp America.
