I doubt it. Schools get accredited for specific programs most of the time (i.e. the Texas journalism school, etc.). I'll have to check on it to make sure though.

I just saw some info that says it is accredited. Who knows, I got something in the mail about it, lol. I just didn't trust it, so I went to my local college for my MBA.

It seems they are accredited.

Here's what's on their websites or linked from their website...

Sorry... I see now I should have been more clear. U of P is, in fact, an "accredited online school."

The accreditation I was referring to is a more exclusive accreditation though. It's relatively easy to get an entire school accredited, I believe. There are tons of "accrediting bodies," and it's pretty hard to find a non-accredited school.

There are specific bodies that accredit certain programs at schools. For example, I received a degree in Journalism/Mass Communication from Abilene Christian, and the year before I graduated the JMC school was accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education for Journalism and Mass Communication. I remember the process was a grueling one, and there were only something like 100-200 programs nationwide that were accredited for JMC.

I looked at U of P online, and in fact they are accredited for two of their US programs... Their nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). And their Master of Counseling program in Community Counseling (in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona) and the Master of Counseling program in Mental Health Counseling (in Utah) are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

U of P has around 25 undergraduate programs (nursing accredited), about 50 graduate programs (counseling accredited), and 6 doctorate programs (of which I see none specifically accredited).

All of that makes me glad I just went with a normal college, lol.

I don't care how it affects the University of Phoenix, but it makes the Cardinals look cheap, if you ask me.

If someone doesn't know the history of the stadium and hears that the Cardinals play at University of Phoenix Stadium, they're going to think that they have to use some Division III college team's field. At least Sun Devil Stadium belonged to a Pac-10 team.

On a related note, I'm looking at a list of non-accredited schools, and this list is hilarious. There are some schools that just sound funny, then there are some schools that the creators of the list don't even know the location of. I figure they tried to find a specific location too, probably just couldn't find one.:lmao2: There are also schools that have names that could be confused with accredited schools... probably done on purpose.

Here are some examples...

Abacus Academy
Albert University - Delaware?
Al Qasim University
Anglo-American Institute of Drugless Medicine
Atlantic University - New York (the one in Virginia is accredited)
Beulah College - Nigeria and Texas
Boston City College (not to be confused with Boston College)
Clemson College (not to be confused with Clemson University in South Carolina)
Four States Cooperative University Texas
Kent College - Louisiana ?
Lincoln-Jefferson University - Iowa (?)
Texas University (not to be confused with the University of Texas, Texas State University, or Texas Tech University)

I've been seeing pop up ads and whatnot for U of P for like ... 8 years... I always thought it was some form of a scam... or at least certainly not a place that I would feel comfortable putting on a resume.

I can see it now..

Interviewer: I see you went to the University of Phoenix for 2 years...
Applicant: Yes, I sure did!.. I have three degrees and I'm actually going back for a two months to get my MBA!
Interviewer: How legitimate are those degrees? I'm not familiar with this school.
Applicant: Well at first there were a lot of concerns, but they just signed a deal to sponsor the Arizona Cardinals new football stadium, so that should really go a long way into raising public awareness and legitimizing the program!
Interviewer: ... I see... um.. ok.. Well... um..We'll call you when we make a decision...

I can tell you that in the corporate world I'm in one of those degrees is worth less than the paper its written on. We've had several people apply for jobs with online degrees and we never even bring them in for interviews.

I absolutely LOVE this line.:lmao:

So you want to lend more credibility to your school and the students by putting it's name on a stadium?? What does that have to do with making your school better?

It is a matter of prestige. When the college championship and the Super Bowl are played in a stadium named for your "school" it gives the student a certain puffed-up feeling. It is a clever device that will bring many more students to the organization, in my opinion.

Irving thought just having the Cowboys play in the city brought it prestige. This is not so different.

More students does not mean more prestige...

More students does not mean better education...

A "puffed up feeling" does not mean better jobs...

See Duane's post above. Naming a football stadium will not change that. Anyone more impressed with Enron after they bought the naming rights to Houston's baseball field?

What a joke. "the University of Phoenix Staduim in Sunny Glendale Arizona..."
  • Roto Rooter Stadium in Sunny Arlington Texas!
  • Depends Field in Arlington
  • Or maybe Pepsi actually does rename it "The Pepsi Compound" as the Hardline implied before.

You are missing the point. Enron didn't mean anything to most people until its name appeared as the "owner" of the ball field. Irving wasn't on the radar until it became the home of the Cowboys. And, apparently, Duane's company didn't know what the 'Phoenix school" was, so it wouldn't pay any attention to its graduates. Now, at least, it will recognize that the school is a "player," whether it change its hiring attitude or not. Remember, the Fox broadcasting system was just a podunk operation until it captured the NFL for its stations. Exposure can do wonders (even attract better professors).

Good post. It is a good marketing move for them, I mean, who would have thunk it, we have a trend about that school on our board.

They are going about it in a different way than most schools do. You see commericals about regular colleges on TV all the time, well, they took the next step since they don't have a football team, buy a piece of one.

That isn't true -- there are only a few accrediting bodies for universities.
