Not to rain on the Tank hype this offseason. What proof have we seen to make us believe he is the answer in the middle nose position? Believe me I hope he is, but the jury is still out.

Given the fact that he will have an entire training camp unlike last year where he came in around the middle of the year with no camp I would think he will be able to do a better job than last season.

The same proof that we should take the OP's skepticism seriously?

j/k

The coaches like what they see so far; I'll go with their know-how at this point.

Plus, in Chicago he was often used as a DT to occupy space/the point of attack and that freed up the Bears' small-ish LBs to make the tackles. Tank's role in Chicago was critical to making that schem work and that defense was what propelled Chicago to the Super Bowl just a few short years ago. Now, Tank is supposedly back to this old physical form (actually, he's gotten bigger), so I'm not too worried about him. I'm more worried about what we would do if we lost him.

I guess I would answer by saying the same proof we have that any of the rookies we drafted or signed can actually play. We go upon the judgment and expectations of the coaching staff.

at least we have some proof that Tank can play in this league

quite well in a pursuit scheme, and now he has about 1 year learning this version

Not to mention he has bulked muscle wise and lowered his overall body fat by the looks of him. (I can't find that pic of him taken at the mini camps I believe.)

Tank may not be a star player but if he can hold the point of attack up the middle and free the LB's up he will work out just fine. I'm not concerned with the play of Tank.

He didn't do that very often last season so he can't help but improve.

I don't think Tank was a liablity on the line. He did not make many plays but held up pretty good at the point of attack. Given he came off the streets in the middle of the season I think he did alright but I do think with a full camp to get into game shape for the start of the season he should do just fine.

Exactly. Unproven? He's a proven commodity.

Of course he wasn't a starter in Chicago except when an injury pushed him into a starting role. Of course that never means you cannot be a starter for another team. Look at the Cowboys CBs this season. All four of the top Cowboys CB would start somewhere in the NFL. (Newman, Henry, Jones, and Jenkins)

I guess you could look at tape of him when he was in chicage with a full offseason and Training camp there, and to add you can tell he's hungry and is surronded by a plethora of talent.

Well, if he wants a fat contract after this season, I would expect him to be a beast this year. I doubt he will get a huge contract here in Dallas though. I just don't think there is enough money to go around with Canty and Ware both coming due also. Of course Williams will be off the payroll next season will free up some cash.

Not sure if you can really call it "hype". But, I can definitely see Tank being a great defensive force for us as a rotation player at the defensive tackle position. Don't sleep on Ratliff and Hatcher clogging up the middle as well. Furthermore, it's widely known around the league that Tank is unusually strong and he uses his leverage extremely well. This coupled with a full off-season with his Dallas teammates and Phillips's defensive system, it's not too far-fetched to say that he will be a big contributor for us this year. The thing with the Dallas Cowboys defense is that, there may not be those eye-popping statistics that will jump out at you BECAUSE the team is so stacked at every defensive position. But as far as the team defense goes, I fully expect those numbers to be eye-popping. =)

:starspin I agree. Tank has had the off-season to get in better shape/condition, and become more familiar with the defense, and his team mates as well.

Your right. 1st game with us was week 10, kind of hard to expect much from a guy who has missed that kind of time.

he only saw more playing time cuz Tommie Harris went down, so he slid over from the DT to the NT slot and i think it was Dusty Dovorack who slid in at the DT slot
