300 Looks cool I saw that several months ago

This is one I am watching for

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/eragon/trailerg/

I saw that one tonight for the first time, though I've known for quite some time it was coming out.

I've not read the books, but from what I understand, the author has come under some criticism as of late for stealing ideas from other epics such as LOTR and even some Harry Potter elements.

I like these type of books/films, but I do thing that with LOTR's & HP's success, we are starting to see an oversaturation of the fantasy epic.

Hopefully we get some good ones out of it

I mean how many really good fantasy type movies are there

LOTR
Excalibur (1980)

Willow (was solid)
Lady Hawk (decent)
Krull (solid)

Then what else ? I can list more bad ones than good ones and a few ok ones

Iranians are outraged over the 300 movie.

I knew as soon as I saw the previews that they would be, and probably with good reason. The movie is going to be very stylized and do a major spin on making them evil.

Ignore history when seeing the movie. This is not a history, or even historical drama. It's historical fantasy based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. It's a story with historical inspiration - that about does it. Ignore everything else.

Ya, probably some Anne McCaffrey in his books as well.

Lord of the Rings was awful.

I don't know why anyone liked that series past the first one.

Two and three were tremendous let downs to anyone who had read the books (or should have been).

And I am not some purist arguing "How can they change Tolkien's work?!" I know there is some give and take, that's why it's called an adaption.

I am just saying, they got cartoony. There was cheesy dialogue, cheesy action, NO character development, etc.

It just became a quick sweep of all the major plot points done in as much of a mass-commercialized form as possible.

Jackson resorted to using stupid tricks to tell his story instead of making it seem real. For example, Frodo and Sam despair upon entering Mordor and seeing a sea of Orcs. Then all of a sudden, they all get up and move towards the exit. "C'mon, now's our chance!"

Are you fricking kidding?

Awful, awful vision of how to depict that moment. And about a million others.

Fountain looks interesting, but it's by Aronofsky, which means it has a good chance to just be completely awful. But hopefully not, and he'll have his first good movie.

300 looks pretty, too soon to tell if it looks good.

Transformers teaser should be coming out soon...looking forward to that. Wife is a Transformers nut, I'm a movie nut who likes Bay movies...usually.

Yep. I thought I was the only one in the world who thought that Pi and Requiem for a Dream were awful. And it aggravates the hell out of me when I say that and hear 'well...you just didn't get it."

Same thing with the movies made by the guy who did The Royal Tenenbaums & Life Aquatic. Just because I don't like it and am not pretentious doesn't mean I didn't 'get it.'

Are you calling me pretentious for liking both those movies? :D

There is nothing to get really. You either like it or you don't. We each have are preferences. I haven't liked any of M. Night Shamylan's movies. I don't think people who do like his movies to be that inferior to me at all.

I don't consider Pi and Requiem for a Dream awful, but they weren't good movies either, in my opinion. They were just okay. Of course I think I have met only a handful of people who have actually seen both movies. That isn't too many considering I live in Austin, which has its fair share of pretentious movie fans.

Don't worry...I thought The Royal Ten and Life A both sucked. Both tried to do some things but sadly they just went overboard and was too slow paced that it just did not work IMO.

No - but I think you get who I am talking about.

"Oh my, his films are just SO original! It's so dry and hilarious, only us, truely intelligent movie fans who see it as the art it really is can understand his films. All those who don't like it just aren't deep enough or didn't grasp what the director was trying to say."

I've seen too much garbage at SxSW and heard that nonsense.

I definitley get what you are saying. I have met several people with that attitude. Not every movie at SXSW is worth seeing in my opinion.

Wes Anderson get a lot of credit for his direction and I think it is okay. I like the movies more for the writing of Owen Wilson than Anderson's directing. I also just really enjoyed Gene Hackman's acting in the Royal Tenebaums. I know more people that don't like those movies and than do like them. Different tastes.

The only 2 movies I plan on seeing any time in the near future are

1. Borat
2. Casino Royale.

I remember reading that the fountain was panned at one of the big film fests.
