The only 2 movies I plan on seeing any time in the near future are

1. Borat
2. Casino Royale.

I remember reading that the fountain was panned at one of the big film fests.

I think it was Switzerland or Sweden. it only has like....50 on Rotten Tomatoes. But it still has a good enough preview.

i do expect to be let down, though.

My general rule of thumb is if the critics hate it I'll like it. :D

I downloaded the trailer on Xbox Live earliar this week, and I admit, it seems to be an interesting enough concept and has two great actors in it.

I will see it, but probably wait until it comes to DVD.

Yeah - other than the visuals, what really does it for me is that I really love Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman.

It's kinda like Ghost Rider. I can't fathom how it will be a decent movie - looks too much like Spawn. But the fact that Nicholas Cage signed on really helps the case.

Lord of the Rings was awful.

I don't know why anyone liked that series past the first one.

Two and three were tremendous let downs to anyone who had read the books (or should have been).

And I am not some purist arguing "How can they change Tolkien's work?!" I know there is some give and take, that's why it's called an adaption.

I am just saying, they got cartoony. There was cheesy dialogue, cheesy action, NO character development, etc.

It just became a quick sweep of all the major plot points done in as much of a mass-commercialized form as possible.

Jackson resorted to using stupid tricks to tell his story instead of making it seem real. For example, Frodo and Sam despair upon entering Mordor and seeing a sea of Orcs. Then all of a sudden, they all get up and move towards the exit. "C'mon, now's our chance!"

Are you fricking kidding?

Awful, awful vision of how to depict that moment. And about a million others.
Agreed. I loved the first installment and was very disappointed by the second and third. That 300 trailer was one of the most excruciating things I've ever sat through. I shudder to imagine the torture of sitting through the whole movie.

:abuseme:

If you ever do watch it, be sure to have some tylenol or something with you. Just the sound in that movie gave me a migraine.

I knew as soon as I saw the previews that they would be, and probably with good reason. The movie is going to be very stylized and do a major spin on making them evil.

Ignore history when seeing the movie. This is not a history, or even historical drama. It's historical fantasy based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. It's a story with historical inspiration - that about does it. Ignore everything else.

...classified as ancient history I would definitely encourage anyone who has a remote interest to explore the classics and the accounts of the days leading up to Thermopylae.

It is a classic tale of "David and Goliath" and one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to realize the incredible suspense and emotion of the moments on the battlefield for those who were participants.

The Greek City States in the end used this as a rallying cry to face a threat they underestimated and thought they could handle politically. Similar to the **** invasions of the thirties and 911.

It's a fabulous story and although I have never read this graphic novel, the real events are as dramatic as any tale one could weave.

I would be very interested in seeing this one.

Yep. I thought I was the only one in the world who thought that Pi and Requiem for a Dream were awful. And it aggravates the hell out of me when I say that and hear 'well...you just didn't get it."

Same thing with the movies made by the guy who did The Royal Tenenbaums & Life Aquatic. Just because I don't like it and am not pretentious doesn't mean I didn't 'get it.'

I agree completely. I disliked all 4 of these movies.

The most pretentious reaction I've seen are for Donnie Darko and Mullholland Drive (or anything David Lynch mostly).

Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive and Pi were all pretty good (not great but good); Royal Tenenbaums and Requiem For A Dream were both vastly overrated; I haven't seen The Life Aquatic (and I can't say that I have a burning desire to see it any time soon.)

I liked Donnie Darko, but I saw it before all the hype for it started, so my expectations weren't great.
