I know Texas law says if the police respond to a domestic violence call someone is going to jail. All to often the woman does not want to press charges and in the past the police would leave only to return later on as the beatings would continue or worse the woman would end up dead.

i had a friend who was dating someone definately "mentally challenged" and she would go off on a tangent over the strangest of things and *would* call the police. very early on am she got up and just lit into my friend for nothing at all and she was being abusive to him and he was just trying to hold her back till she could get "medicated" - instead she ran to the phone and called the police.

they came over and knocked on his door and he answered and looked back at her and said "you wanna tell them why they're here cause i really don't know". she went outside with one officer, he stayed inside with another and after about 10 minutes they swapped officers (story validation) and after both officers talked to both of them alone SHE went to jail.

like you said - *someone* has to go in that instance and the police felt she needed to go more than he did.

there was another night where the food in the freezer wound up in the back yard. we never figured that one out and just let it go as something interesting to remember.

so that makes it ok that he hits her?

maybe he did, maybe he didn't. are you saying it's impossible for there to be a struggle over the cell phone and it slips out and because she's pulling back anyway she hits herself?

good god - people act like they were there with so few facts and start judge/jurying around.

you start to lose the benefit of the doubt when you've got convictions in your past

You're right, and I'll be the first volunteer. It's time to rid the league of trash.

sure, i can see that. in that instance irvin must have raped the girl while the big E watched and held her down.

i mean, after all, he misbehaved in the past, right?

You make the bed you sleep in. Don't commit the crime to start with, and you don't have to worry about the past affecting you.

I don't feel any sympathy for anyone who knowingly commits a crime.

As always, focusing on the most extreme case you can think of rather than the more common domestic violence situation leads to poor logic.

Like it or not, that's their job. To protect the interests of their members.

You mean like Lorenzo Booker?

Some of these guys are not defensible such as PacMan Jones.
The NFLPA has to simply decide which battles are worth fighting or risk being useless all the way around.

This guy is a trouble magnet and I am sure signed a contract indicating he would not get into trouble or would be cut and forfeit any bonus money.

Regardless -- they pay union dues and it is the union's job to make sure they get due process. Just because the union files an appeal doesn't mean they are defending the player's actions. They are ensuring that the player was treated in a manner consistent with the CBA.

Woman now says she hit herself with cell phone

I wonder how hard he hit the poor woman to change her story....

A person might be inclined to hit themselves on the head with a blunt object; that being said that person is probably enclosed in a white room with four padded walls. ( at least I would hope so)

I am sure the NFLPA is going to believe this, but regardless why would somebody do that? I say he should have never put himself in this situation, and honestly I want to say that he should be considered guilty until proven innocent.

All I have to say is people do lie...

They do.

However it is very common in domestic violence cases is that the woman changes her story to protect the guy who is beating her. That's far more likely than someone calling the police to get someone in trouble for something he didn't do.

That sounds like the old Bill Cosby skit about him and his brother who were fighting at night. Dad came in and wanted to know why Russell was crying, and Bill said, "he fell off the bed and hit his eye on my fist".

"To Russell, My Brother, Who I Slept With"... perhaps Bill Cosby's best comedy album ever... anybody who ever had to share a bed with a little brother can relate to a lot of what he talked about... I too tried very hard on a number of occasions to convince MY brother Ron he was adopted... :D

Man, that album is REAL old, I'm surprised anybody remembered it... wasn't that the one that had the "Noah and the Lord" bit on the other side??

"Noah"

"Who is that??"

"It's the Lord"

"Riiiighhtttt"

"I want you to build an ark"

"Riiiigggghhttt-- what's an ark??"

God goes on to tell him how many cubits the boat should be, and of course Noah says "Riiiiggghhttt-- what's a cubit??" Every step of the way, Noah's griping, he REALLY doesn't wanna do it... his friends and neighbors are making fun of him, the animals are impossible to control... and he's telling the Lord ALL about it...

Then it starts raining... whereupon Noah says:

"It's you and me, Lord, right??"
