Update on Nick Folk

score 27-27--time expiring-- they rush Folk in for a 58 yarder--wide right and short--replay determines that 1 second remains --Buehler in for a 72 yarder--it's good -- the ball sails through the window at the end of the stadium and Buehler is taken up into heaven by a fiery chariot

Then the skies part and Hostile acknowledges " That is one hell of kicker "

Upset by even thinking this, he starts a new thread, " Why I hate kickers, except for Buehler (maybe) "

:D

And then hell freezes over.

The one thing that really bothered me about Folk last year, was that he just crumbled mentally. It seemed he was always blaming something or someone. And it wasn't consistent. First, he blames McBriar, but then when Romo takes over, he still can't make a 24-yarder. I remember the highlight (or lowlight) of him looking at McBriar with his arms in the air after one of his really bad misses, as if to lay it all on him. Now, I'm not an expert, and I know subtle changes can make a big difference, but I work as an athletic trainer at a high school. I have to believe that the holds I see every week are no better than what McBriar was doing, and these kids nail one kick after another.

Then he blames his injury for not allowing him to prepare in the offseason like he normally would, then blames the fact that Beuhler was there for "forcing" him to come back to soon. Well, just how much offseason work does an All-Pro kicker need? Also, it seemed like it was pretty well-known that Beuhler was only there to kick off, not kick FG's, so if he was looking over his shoulder, that was all him. I mean, they didn't even have any kind of competition in camp.

I just think the guy fell apart mentally. At then end, he was missing badly in warmups, with no one else around. I hope he gets his head together and has a good career.

As for the idea of him beating the Cowboys in the SB, well it could happen, but not this year. I don't see the Jets getting there, and with our schedule, I don't know if I see us getting there either.

With kickers it really is about 80% mental. And clearly Folk lost his confidence; but when he started to blame everyone else I was done with him. Once you start down that road there is very little likliehood that you will come back.

I was already thinking it before you suggested it. A lot would have to happen for that scenario to take place. Folk would have to get back to form. The Cowboys would have to make history by making it to the Super Bowl in their home stadium. The Jets would have to prove that last year was no fluke (not sure they're for real). The game would have to come down to the last second, etc. Anything can happen, though. A great scenario would be if The Buehler kicks the winning FG in Super Bowl XLV. His legend would grow beyond imagination.

Now there is a REPLY! I like it Boyzmamacita. Buehler with the winning FG. Screw Folk. He lost his job in Dallas. Time to move on.

there's still time for JJ to trade next years 1st for him before the season gets started.

I would be nervous with Folk...once they lose confidence to that degree...its really hard to return to same guy. The kick against NO was purely a guy who had self imploded...

Blaming Beuhler is just another sign Folk is too mentally weak to make it as a K in the NFL. Mentally weak is about the last thing you want associated with your K, especially come playoff time.

And if the Jets keep Folk, they will have to account for his weak kickoffs. Folk had trouble getting it down to the 10 yd line IIRC. So the Jets may need to get a kickoff specialist to go with Folk.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Folk wasn't eligible for IR.

Besides, this is way too much concern over a coach trying to instill some confidence in a broken kicker.

He wasn't eligible for IR because he wasn't injured. I guess they could have made up something, but his hip had long since healed by then.

Stop using facts big man :D

Folk wasn't listed on the injured list all season so we couldn't put him on the IR.

I still think we should have put Folk on the IR (or at least the PUP) last year.
