Special teamer Harry Williams will have surgery for a fractured vertebrae after being injured in the Texans' preseason loss Friday night.
Williams experienced temporary paralysis after colliding with teammate Nick Ferguson while covering a kick. He regained movement in his extremities, but needs fusion surgery to stabilize his spine. Doctors believe Williams will be able to walk again, but this may end the 26-year-old's career. Aug. 23 - 1:07 am et

I hope they can give him a pension

If that happened to a Cowboy, Jerry would find a position in the office or on the staff somewhere for the victim...

Sucks that he may never play again but I'm relieved knowing he will be able to move again.

Didn't look good at all. He absolutely did no move that entire time.

Just minutes before that happened I was thinking to myself, "I hope both teams leave this game without injuries". Always sad to see stuff like this happen, but it's unavoidable in a sport where 250 pound men are running at eachother full speed. Every snap these guys careers are on the line. I hope the best him and a full recovery.

While playing football in high school, I suffered a bilateral PARS fracture of my L5 vertebrae as well as multiple disc injuries above the site of my fracture so I know the pain he's going through. Luckily I didn't need surgery, I just had to wear a bone-growth stimulator for about 3 months and take an array of meds. Unfortunately it's something that he'll deal with for the rest of his life.

Injuries are similar in the extent that you both had Vertebrae injuries, but I don't think I could ever imagine injuring one of my C Verterbrae (neck) and losing complete feeling from there down, even if it only last a couple minutes. This is the ugly side of Football, and he's luck in the sense that he got the chance to play in the NFL.

My best wishes go out to him and his family during this long recovery period. I'm glad he's regained all feeling and movement but this is only the begining.

Aw man that is awful. Hoped there wouldn't be any injuries but it's a tough game. Hope things work out for him and that he's got an owner who does more then minimum. Agree that Jerry would do the max.

damn, the houston post game radio show thought it was just a stinger and that he would be back this week. what a horrible break for the young man.

They don't put you on a stretcher with oxygen for a stinger.

That was what scared me the most- having that oxygen on Williams.

A fractured vertebrae is terrible, but hopefully he can have the fusion like the Moose did and live a relatively normal life. Feeling and movement is a good sign.

This may prove to be the end of his professional football career, but I hope that he understands that its also the beginning of a very long, happy, and hopefully, very healthy life outside of the sport he loves. Best of luck to him.

Stanbachs insane juke caused this injury, not his fault but football risks.

I hope he recovers and can lead a normal life. When he was having problems breathing I knew this was very serious, life threatening on the field.

Fault. "A responsibility for a wrongful act". 'Fault' is a poor choice of words.

Nick Ferguson slipped and hit Williams in the helmet trying to tackle Stanback also. It's not Ferguson's fault and it's certainly not Stanback's. It was an unfortunate accident which sometimes occurs in football and even though I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, I take great

offense to how you phrased it, which implies blame due to Stanback's move.
