I don't want to feed a bunch of misinformation to this board intentionally. I have received conflicting reports on Upshaw from he has been removed to there are concerns that need further investigating to they simply are not that impressed with him and have concerns over what his role would be. Either way, nothing is positive regarding his status with the Cowboys but at this time I'm not comfortable saying he has been totally removed as I stated yesterday and I don't want anyone taking it for gospel in their pre draft preparation.

I'm sorry for this misunderstanding and I apologize if this somehow caused anyone extra work or time.

If I can get any clarification or updates on the situation I will post them but at this time from my personal standpoint I will not be eliminating Upshaw from consideration but will be placing him way down the line as a potential prospect.

Fair enough, SDogo.

Also, after reading S Jones' comments on Upshaw, I'm not sure they have a true position for him.

I'm sticking with Barron, Cox, and DeCastro for now at 14. :)

I'd be happy with any of those 3 guys as well.

And I think they would all be starters very early on with the Cowboys too.

I would say so as well. Even if they trade down a bit (assuming no major drop) I would assume they would still be targeting one of those 3. Most likely in a trade down it would be DeCastro because it appears Cox will be gone before 14, don't believe Barron would get past 18 and DeCastro seems to be the only name slipping beyond that.

Once you get past 18 assuming all 3 are gone that's when I think you have to look at Brockers, Whitney, Glenn, Zietler and Konz the other names we have been discussing.

Agreed.

Also, in terms of trading down, I'm thinking maybe we try a small trade down in Round 2 instead of Round 1 and try to pick up another 4th rounder.

Going from 45 to around 50-55 area we should still be able to land a very good player like Boykin, Curry, etc. and still pick up another pick.

I'd rather not sacrifice top quality at 14 and miss out on one of our top 3 guys.

also, while I do believe Cox is our #1 choice..I dont see very much chance of him being available..if we stay at 14, chances are it will be Barron or DeCastro...

DeCastro has all but flown under the radar when it comes to the cowboys, specifically in media reports..im starting to feel like he will be our pick..

Yes, I think so too.

Looks like Cox could quite easily be a top 10 pick.

Yeah, that sits a little weird with me as well.

I'm starting to think so too. Every thing else is a smoke screen. We are going to take DeCastro and move him to center. BPA and a position of great need.

Virtually every mock draft has Cox going to Carolina at this point.

I don't know if everything is a smokescreen, but I like this idea the most for the team.

Here's something Ourlads had on DeCastro in their latest mock draft,

14 Dallas David DeCastro* OG Stanford 6047 316 5.32
DeCastro is the best guard we've evaluated since Steve Hutchinson in 2001. DeCastro is intense, explosive, patient, and has excellent recoverability in pass protection. Jerry Jones brought in Bill Callahan to coordinate the running game offense. DeCastro helps solidify the line in pass protection and in the running game. The Cowboys have signed two free agent journeymen guards but Callahan may consider moving DeCastro to center...he developed Nick Mangold into an all pro for the Jets.

EDIT: I could definitely get behind moving DeCastro to OC. I know he did work out some at OC at his Pro Day I believe. I wonder how his shotgun snaps are?

I am beginning to think that they will take DeCastro and at camp have him work at center while evaluating all those on the roster who can play center, Killa, Nagy and Costa. If one of them looks like they can play center OK he goes to guard. If not they might try Bernadue at center and put DeCastro at guard. I have wondered if the fact he can play center was the main reason they went after bernadue.

This might explain why they have not been looking at one in FA and do not appear to really be all that serious about drafting one.

Not because they think Costa is actually going to amount to anything.

It sure seems like that to me but, of course, it could just be me seeing what I want to see. No doubt we could use help on D and I definitely uderstand the thinking that we should go defense first (because interior OL is deep in this draft and we could get help in the 2nd or 3rd). However, I could see Dallas really liking DeCastro (RKOG and almost flawless as a prospect). He has everything they want in an interior OL. They appear to have hit the jackpot with Tyron and SHOULD know the value of protecting Romo after the past few years. I would think these factors would make them less hesitant to pull the trigger on an OL in the 1st - even if he is "just an interior OL". Guys like Proctor and Costa SHOULD have shown them the value of the interior OL. The guys we could possibly get in the 2nd or 3rd are likely starters by year 2 or maybe 1, but I don't know how many of them can come in like DeCastro and be very effective (predicting of course). This team needs a first rounder that can come in and start. Interior OL is a NEED and if the sure thing/least risky prospect DeCastro is there they should pull the trigger, be happy, and prepare for the next pick IMO.

Bill Jones flat out said to scratch him a week or two ago.

I'd say at this point if you don't know enough about a guy, you should just take him off the list.

What can you possibly learn in the next week and a half that you didn't already learn in the previous 3-4 months?
