Update Regarding Upshaw

I'm starting to think so too. Every thing else is a smoke screen. We are going to take DeCastro and move him to center. BPA and a position of great need.

This is what I think as well. May be wishful thinking though.

Am I the only one that thinks there is no way we draft DeCastro with the plan of moving him to center?

I think if we draft him, he will play guard..and I dont think its even a discussion

also, while I do believe Cox is our #1 choice..I dont see very much chance of him being available..if we stay at 14, chances are it will be Barron or DeCastro...

DeCastro has all but flown under the radar when it comes to the cowboys, specifically in media reports..im starting to feel like he will be our pick..

I've never left the DeCastro bandwagon. Please, Please, Please!!!

Virtually every mock draft has Cox going to Carolina at this point.

Too bad as I think he'd be my second choice of players who could fall to us. I'd rank them:

1. Coples
2. Cox
3. Ingram

As you can tell I want a defensive front 7 pressure player and those are the only ones worth the #14 pick. I think two won't be there (Cox and Ingram) and not sure the team likes Coples.

Here's something Ourlads had on DeCastro in their latest mock draft,

14 Dallas David DeCastro* OG Stanford 6047 316 5.32
DeCastro is the best guard we've evaluated since Steve Hutchinson in 2001. DeCastro is intense, explosive, patient, and has excellent recoverability in pass protection. Jerry Jones brought in Bill Callahan to coordinate the running game offense. DeCastro helps solidify the line in pass protection and in the running game. The Cowboys have signed two free agent journeymen guards but Callahan may consider moving DeCastro to center...he developed Nick Mangold into an all pro for the Jets.

EDIT: I could definitely get behind moving DeCastro to OC. I know he did work out some at OC at his Pro Day I believe. I wonder how his shotgun snaps are?

Yeah, I've seen that too. I don't know how I feel about that. Of course I'd take him at C over what we have but I think he's a natural G.

But hey, get your best 5 on the field. Draft DeCastro. If he's the only OL you ended up getting in the draft, move him to C for this year. You can worry about the future later.

Smith Livings DeCastro Bernadeau Free

It's at least an improvement. That could even be a real nice run blocking line between the tackles. Which we haven't had in forever.

I'd let him try C if it came to that or watching Costa again. Hell, I'd let anyone try center in that situation.

I agree. Coples just doesn't seem like a guy we'd be interested in. 10 years ago, yeah. Not now with Garrett. I think he's enough of an influence to steer the GM away from taking that risk.

I'm a big proponent of Parcells' commandment to find guys who truly love football. I just don't think Coples is one of those guys. The thought of him as a millionaire on this team scares me.

But Mangold was a center in college.

Honestly, a team in the top 10 telling this guy that they're seriously considering taking Barron with their pick is draft smoke signal language for "trade up with us and give us a boatload of picks to get someone you could get if you stayed put."

Having said that, I think Barron is a legitimate top 15 talent, and could go in the top 10 IF a team had a high need for a safety AND there aren't players available rated as highly that didn't also fill a huge need. Fortunately for those who are pulling for the Cowboys to take him, I don't think that's going to be the case for any team in the top 10, and I believe Barron will be on the board if the Cowboys want him at #14. At this point, though, he has risen on enough boards that a trade down means he won't be a Cowboy, in all likelihood.
