Updated: ***Cowboys Players Official Cut List***

I have a couple of conflicting thoughts here.

First, the scouting department, and particularly the pro-personnel department, has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt, particularly since Garrett took over. It seems like everyone they've brought in (Fiametta, Robinson) has worked out, and everyone who's been let go (McCann, Choice) will never be missed.

Second, when I see Ben Bass' name on this list, and Jumpy Junior's name conspicuous by its absence, I think this team will not improve on 8-8 if we keep going to war with the same scrubs we went to war with last time. IMO, Coale is another Kevin Ogletree; they're both 'just a guy', but at least Coale still has some upside. I realize Ogletree made some plays this preseason, but he also had way too many balls bouncing off his hands and his chest. Its not the number of plays that matters, its number of plays per opportunity, or the ratio of good plays to bad plays.

Maybe Ogletree will prove me wrong, but he's already been given 3 or 4 chances, and he hasn't done it yet. I'm pretty sure Harris has passed him on the depth chart, I suspect Beasley will make more plays than Ogletree, and in about 8 games, I expect Holmes, or whoever else is on the Cowboys roster at that point, to pass him, too.

If Ben Bass played against the starters, he'd get pushed around like a rag doll.

Getting a sack against future Home Depot employees is not that big of a deal.

Just an FYI...both Bass and Geathers have been confirmed as released by credible sources.

I hope Coale tears it up in another team.
I cant believe Holmes is still not cut.
Im surprised about Hamilton being cut.

Just for grins: Position by position who we have heard no cut mentions, but might yet be cut, (as of 4:33 pm. central time) about:

QB- McGee
RB- Dunbar, Tanner, Olawale
TE-Szcerba
OL- (I don't see how they can cut anymore here)
WR- Holmes, Benford, Saliim
DE- Spears, Coleman, Lissemore
NT- Brent, Calloway
OLB- Atkins, Wilbur
ILB- (by my count there are only four left making more cuts unlikely)
CB- AOA, Williams, Butler
S- McCray, Johnson, Silva

I may have missed a couple, but with 10 more cuts, who stays, who goes?

Well, I assure you there is zero chance that Lissimore or Brent get cut. Wow.

9 left 13 confirmed so far

Or McCray. Aside from being our best special teams player, he's been playing 1st string in sub packages.

I would cut
AOA and Williams at CB
Holmes, Benford, and Salim at WR
Szcerba at TE
McGee at QB
Dunbar and Olawale at RB
Coleman at DE (unless we trade Spears)
B Atkins at OLB

and i would then go and try to get another OL after the cuts.

We only know of 12 of the 22 cuts, many more to come

13* of the 22 so far, 9 more to go. I say those 9 are: Benford, Hakim, Szczerba, Atkins, Callaway, AOA, Teddy Williams, Whitley... and I think the last one will come down to cutting one of McGee, Olawale or Dunbar. Can't imagine them keeping 5 backs, so McGee is probably safe. Dunbar if I had to guess.

Now 13 with Lionel Smith's tweet.

Of the 9 cuts remaining, I think here are 7 of them:

QB McGee
WR Hakim
WR Benford
OL Novikoff
LB/DE Atkins
DB AoA
DB Williams

With two more cuts after those, we've basically got DL Callaway, RBs Olawale and Dunbar, and TE Szczerba as potential cuts, with the other two likely to make it for at least a week.

So...do they keep Callaway and Szczerba as depth incase Ratliff and Witten aren't ready to go next week? Can they pull off a trade of Coleman or Spears as has been rumored to make room for Callaway and allow them to keep Dunbar? Or will they just keep the two guys they think can help the most and go from there?

Only time will tell....

With Chapas gone, I think the Cowboys probably keep another TE .... maybe Szcerba, but I think they're going to hit the waiver wire pretty hard looking for someone better. Wouldn't surprise me if one of the Chargers TEs end up here.

Tim Benford ‏@T_Ford3
Everything happens for a reason! Gotta keep pushing and go even harder

Tim Benford just tweeted this. Pretty much confirms he's gone.

I would think we'll end up picking two players post cuts.

I'd guess another OL and either a WR or TE.
