Garrett is letting friendship get in the way of business when it comes to McGee.

We shouldn't need Kyle Orton if McGee was worth a flip.

I'm surprised no RB has been cut.

Are they friends or something? This is the first i'm hearing about this.

"Cowboys rookie safety Matt Johnson has been told he will be on the team’s active roster, a league source said."

Looks like Matt will make it!

I noticed the chest bump and pat on the back before the game with the big smile.

I listened to John Daniels, GM of the Rangers, today being interviewed and he said even with the friendship he has with players the great people they hire won't allow him to let that come between what's best for the team. Hmmm, no wonder they have been so successful.

So kept Adcock instead of Leary at guard; Atkins instead of Lemon or Hamilton at linebacker; Holmes instead of Coale at receiver; also kept both NTs Brent and Callaway (at least for the moment).

All of those surprise me a bit, especially Atkins ... but I was wondering why he got fairly early playing time in our warm-up game against San Diego. Still could see him getting cut, though.

Hopefully, we get Lemon, Hamilton, Leary, Bass and Coale, at least, back on practice squad.

Atkins over Hamilton surprises me too. And I think Lemon has more upside than Connor. With Rat injured, I can see why both Brent & Callaway were retained.

But McGee has no business being on this team. He has no feel for the passing game, he has to see the WR open before he throws, he never throws the WR open.

If Cowboys are cutting Coale, why not Johnson? Coale showed more than Johnson in TC and the preseason.

DC.com writers prediction has us keeping 6 rb's... crazy

One is also a TE/rb/fb/HB olwe (spelling) which means witten may not be ready week one or maybe even a trade may go down

Yeah bc this is exactly why we suck

No, you think there would be an upside. But there's a lot more to what players can or can't achieve than the small percentage we, as fans, can see or know. So if the guys who have been playing, scouting, and coaching for 25-30 years say a young guy's potential upside is not worth the risk of losing something they know--at least for the short term--they're more likely to be right than we are. Not 100% of the time, mind you...but more likely. If you take the mindset that you always keep potential over someone who is solid, you're going to have a bad football team most of the time.

And for the record, the Cowboys have not done the same thing year after year. In fact, the last few years have been markedly better from a personnel perspective. But all the potential in the world does you zero good if it doesn't come out on the field. And the fact is that the players have not gotten the job done on the field when it's mattered. And news flash--Stephen McGee, who may be on the cut list anyway if Mike Fisher's source is correct, wasn't the one on the field not getting it done. Just sayin'...

Hey you are talking reason which gets in the way of their pet cats and the emotion tied to them. You know that is not allowed :wink2:

Good question...

I think it has to do with two things, the first being their physical skills compared with the "norm" of the position. I think Coale is "ho-hum" when compared to other receivers. Johnson's numbers appear to be a little better when compared to other safeties.

Secondly it comes down to the competion at the position. Coale was competiting with several guys who really lit it up this preseason. Johnson's competition, after you disregard what the starters were doing, wasn't nearly as tough.

Yikes. AOA, Whitley, Atkins, Szczerba and Teddy over Hamilton, Lemon, Bass and Coale???? And I like Teddy Williams but not better than Hamilton.

And Dockery is a POS.

Please tell me you don't base your opinions on rumors. Garrett and McGee are not buddies.

Correctamundo! Every situation is different. Same with Wilbur...he may be able to come in after his injury and be in the rotation or in some sets pretty quickly. They may have just thought more highly of him, liked what they saw in his limited time, and see him as greater potential and a greater upgrade at his position than Coale at his.

The same thing happened with Harris last year as Coale this year...cut and put on the practice squad for most of the season. Granted, with Harris is wasn't due to injury. But it's much more critical for a late round pick to get on the field and stand out early on.

I still cant believe that someone like Holmes who failed conditioning test, showed almost nothing after being one year in PS is still not cut while a rookie who was injured is already cut.
Could be that they hyped him too much and to cut him know would make them look bad.

Holmes is a lot more raw than Coale, and maybe Dallas just sees more upside.

Plus, Dallas seems to love size at receiver and Holmes has plenty of that.

Might have something to do with whom they've got at their positions, plus potential.

Mana Silva and Danny McCray aren't exactly world-beaters at backup safety. Both can deliver hits, but neither has shown great consistency in coverage.

At receiver, I think the fact that Beasley came on so strong had more effect on Coale's roster spot than any one else. Both were seen more as having slot potential IMO while Holmes is more in the mold of the type of guys Dallas likes having on the outside.

Once again there are cuts still to be made. People are crying over players who were kept over others and the final cuts haven't even happened.

Surprised we cut Leary. Not because he shouldn't have been - he was awful.

I guess Jerry pulled another fast one. Leary was the pacifier for those crying about the offensive line but now that it's too late to do anything about it, he's been released.

They know who they are all 22 but they have not let it out and the Cowboys will not release the official list until tomorrow.

Most are know because the players let it out that they got cut or someone like family leaked it out.
