Exactly... If the Skins OR Panthers lose AND we win, then we are in. At least that is what I think it is.
First tie breaker in a more than 2-team race for a Wild-Card spot goes by each individual division first. This would mean that (if Washington wins and Carolina loses, amking all 3 teams 10-6) the Skins would be in front of us for the 1st wild-card spot because they swept us; thus giving the Panthers and Skins a 2-team race for the first WC spot. I think Washington wins this, so they would get the 5th seed, with 1 spot open and the Cowboys and Panthers left. Because the Skins would already be in, then they would NOT be in the "group" of teams fighting for the final spot and taken out of the tie-breaking procedure. That would leave the Cowboys and Panthers and tie-breaker goes to head-to-head first, meaning we would be the Panthers and get the 6th seed.
Even if Tampa Loses to New Orleans and ends up tied with the Panthers, Tampa has the tie-breaker over Carolina and still wins the South (just like the Cowboys-Skins tie-breaking procedure in the East). Of course, IF the Skins get upset by the eaGALS and WE win, then we are in the playoffs no matter what, because we would have a better record than the Skins outright. It doesn't matter if the Panters AND Bucs win because 1 will then win the divison and the other woudl get the WC with us.
It is a bit complicated and I'm not 100% sure about all of this, especially if Minnesota wins out, among other things. We shall see, but the Cowboys have 1 more week of life left. Obviously, by the time our game comes around next Sunday night, we will know what we HAVE to do to even have a chance to get in.
One last question, IF we lose to St. Louis, is there ANY way that we can sneak into the playoffs??? I highly doubt it, in fact I'm just about sure of it, but I am just curious if that is possible.
GO FALCONS, GO EAGALS and of course, GO COWBOYS!!!
