I was watching my Hawkeyes the other day... and just imaging Desmond King at FS for us. Such a nose for the ball and a very good tackler. He might stay at CB but I would love him at FS for us.

Like him but think he'll stay at CB. that's where the money is. I expect him to go pro.

It's funny how none of the draft sites have picked up on him yet but he's starting to easily look like a day 2 pick who could move up to a first round pick if he keeps it up and has a good combine. East coast bias I suppose. I wouldn't mind him as our CB either... especially if we lose Mo and decide to keep Byron at FS (where I am really starting to think we should put him ASAP)

We need to search for safety help around the league :lmao:..........while our #1 pick grows mold on the sideline.

What does this say about our ability to draft? So knew this Bryon Jones was gonna bust.........

Not sure what games you are watching but Jones is balling so far. There is nothing wrong with our ability to draft. I think we have one of the best track record recently. Jones is going to be a big part of the answer not the problem for many years.

Street made the roster because Dooley is an incompetent coach who is high on him.

How else do we get articles proclaiming Street was going to challenge Williams for the other starting WR. Or how Whitehead was a lock to make the roster. Dooley dropping gems.

He can't even determine what a scrub WR looks like

He needs to. Or JJ can shoot him. Personally, I don't care which.

As long as he is gone...

Jones has flashed potential in coverage against TEs.

Safety might be his position.

Having more than one pass rusher will help our secondary. The last 3 games we've been without at least two consistent rushers. That plays a role in the success our secondary has. If we give 3-5 seconds to throw, they will pick us apart. Let's rate those guys once we have guys who can get pressure up front on a consistent basis.

Move jones to FS
Wilcox to SS
Church to OLB or off the roster

Or invest lots of $ and/or picks

Jones could be one answer at the safety position. I know some will call him a bust after seing him in limited action after 4 games. But the more sensible among us can still see that as a very real possibility. If he does take on this safety role. We may have to look at grabbing another CB unless Claiborne continues to play well and is resigned. Not a real comforting situation. Maybe Patmon grows in to the other starter at CB? WR is definitely going to have to be addressed along with Running Back and QB this off season. Plus,we have to draft another another TE and LB'r as well. :D

No amount of pass rush is going to help with the bad tackling and bad angles. It also isn't going to help with completely turning the wrong way and running the wrong way when playing support for the CBs.

You still need help upfront. If there is no pressure and when your opposing QB can have time he'll pick you apart and it does an injustice to your secondary. We need pressure up front and yes we need to tighten up our tackling overall.

That goes without saying but as a safety, you still need to tackle well. We lost the game last night because our saftety took a bad angle and then missed a tackle. No pass rush is going to help with him making those kinds of mistakes.

Yeah but if a backfield is occupied more often with rushers, the less likely the QB can do damage to our secondary. We're inconsistent in tackling and I won't deny it. They have to do better in that area and our front end can also give them a hand with some pressure on a more consistent basis.

As I said that goes without saying. Pass rush will help them cover but not with what the safeties been terrible at this year. Taking bad angles and tackling.

I've agreed to our lack of consistent tackling and overall when it comes to the safety spot they're responsible for coverage too. My overall take covers beyond tackling inconsistencies. We have our games where they leave you scratching your head and others where they're swarming to the ball carrier like they should. There isn't a safety available that can replace our safeties without giving up a draft pick and paying any salary cap hits that would come for those departing and arriving . They just need to step up.

They also need to stop it with trying to go for the big hit. They need to learn to tackle by wrapping up. They also need to know at times tackling the opponent is more important than missing the tackle trying to strip the ball. Coaches need to drive that point to these guys hard.
