That style of coaching is old. Getting to Micah Parsons, he is a big deal. Hope his injuries don't affect him like it did the very good Sean Lee and that after he signs that huge deal and I am being presumptuous here with the Cowboys he stays Micah and not some rock star diva. He is playing like a man on a mission.

Sean Lee was busted up the day he was drafted and cursed with bad hamstrings. Parsons shows no signs of any of it.

that style of coaching works with college athletes kids who know they cant say much because he holds their fate in his hands

youre working with grown men now who have finicial security and arent going to be scared of you like college athletes are

being tough is one thing, Bill Parcells was tough but what Meyer did suggested he had no control and was trying to think he was the head honcho without giving respect

The media started bashing Meyer on day one. They really poured it on when Tebow was signed. There is no doubt that Meyer can coach football, but he never stood a chance.

BS. You are completely ignoring how he has treated everyone around him. THAT is the reason he is a losing coach and why he was fired. Trying to blame the media is absolutely idiotic.

Coaches still have the upper hand even in the pros b/c they control who gets on the field. Coaches have always used fear of losing your job as a motivator and they still do. You just can't talk to pro athletes the same way you talk to an 18 year old kid fresh out of high school who needs to be coached up and mentored. What is motivating and inspiring to a teen is hoky and at times disrespectful to a mature pro player. Urban basically didn't adapt to NFL culture.

Very few athletes have "financial security". If you look at the cowboys 52 man roster, 30 guys make under a million and the average NFL career is only 3.3 years. Factor in the way most of them spend money and many of them are broke soon after their career ends and have to work like the rest of us.

Urban Meyer's career should be over...but some college schools will always be desperate. The guy is lazy, he doesn't want to work hard anymore...that's why he thought the NFL was a good destination for him.

Jimmy was the same type of coach as Meyer and that style of coaching can work in the pros. Emmitt has said that he never went to a practice feeling like his job was secure in Dallas. Wade tried to treat players like they were mature adults and it didn’t take long for him to realize that he was not coaching mature men. If social media didn’t exist, Meyer could have easily built a good Jaguars team. There were too many members of the media that wanted drama in Meyer’s first year. The media repeatedly stated that Meyer made the decision to sign Tebow. That is a lie . Meyer sent assistant coaches to Tebow’s workout and Meyer signed Tebow based on the recommendations that the assistant coaches gave him.

Some colleges want to win and Meyer can build any college team into a great team. Meyer has never had accusations of being lazy that I am aware of. He certainly didn’t have as many accusations of laziness as McCarthy has over the last few years.

Would love to see Myers get another gig, start the bully BS and some kid knock him on his butt, which that kicker should have done. The guy is a jerk.

Kicker....hey old man, did you just kick me, WHAM!!!!!!!!!!

Darrell Bevell the old Seahawks OC who I believe called the pass play at the 1 losing the SB when Marshawn Lynch was breathing fire ready to bash into the end zone instead of an INT …well Bevell finished for Matt Patricia as interim when Patricia was canned in Detroit last yr and this yr Bevell will finish 2021 for Jacksonville after Meyers firing. I doubt if any Coach in history has finished 2 yrs running 2 different clubs as “ interim “ HC.

So the losing is Meyer’s fault? Did you forget that the last several seasons had the Jags playing just as bad as they have played under Meyer? Jimmy Johnson was put in a position that was just about identical to Meyer’s position. Jimmy didn’t treat the players or assistant coaches very well at all. It was not known because there was no social media and no youtubers that created drama in Dallas. Nobody would know how Meyer treated players if there wasn’t a leak in the Jags organization. I would say that pretending the media had no effect on this situation would be ignorant and delusional.

Kellen Moore will get an interview for this job. Maybe the one in Chicago that’s going to open .

That outfit in Jax is a joke. From going to London every year to that glorified college stadium they play in to the revolving door at HC & GM. Even Tom Coughlin the sequel couldn’t straighten it out.

Interestingly enough with Trevor Lawrence in place drafting high next year every round a .500 ball club not out of the question maybe playoffs in 2 yrs. With the right Offensive side of the ball thinking HC.
I’m positive Kellen Moore will get a phone call . Enough of the big name college coaches who flame out .
However- the franchise did have a bolt from the blue four seasons ago.
Made the AFC Championship -losing to New England by 4 points (after controlling the game in the first half). But since that "Sacksonville" season:
Three straight last place division finishes - all with double-digit losing records (5-11, 6-10, 1-15).
With a 2-11 record, one half of that dismal streak continues...but maybe with the HC purge the Jaguars get a spark and avoid the AFC South cellar (Houston Texans also 2-11).

Has any coach ever been fired during his first season?

Lou Holtz Jets 1976 and Bobby Petrino Falcons lasted less then a yr from college ball to pros but I think they resigned before getting fired. Now Pete McCulley with the 78 49ers went 1-8 and got canned yr one . Bill Walsh was right around the corner to turn that franchise around .

Its a hard transition going from dealing with kids on a college campus to pro athletes.

"Meyer’s biggest issues came off the field, where he tried to handle a professional team like he was on a college campus.

He splashed slogans and catchphrases around the facility, instilled gimmicks in practice, and repeated his misguided belief that coaches coach for players and players play for coaches. He brought in motivational speakers and kept blaming assistants for the team's mounting losses instead of the grown men actually on the field.
"
Sounds like a strategy implemented by a not-too-former coach of the Cowboys.

Well you have that down pat frankly. Not sure why you are slobbering all over Meyer but its kind of pathetic.
