I know everybody drags out Stoops every time there is a coaching vacancy but this time, I think that there is at least a chance that Stoops could be the guy. He has turned down every other opportunity and last time the job at Florida came open, Stoops was interested. However, that was 5 years ago and Stoops was coming off of 5 seasons where he was a combined 60 and 7. He was not seeing the same kind of pressure with Texas or winning bowl games. He was not seeing nearly as much pressure from the OU fan base either.
Florida is one of the few programs that might be a better opportunity then OU, recruiting wise. Remember too that Stoops came from Florida before accepting the OU job. He was the DC from 96-98. He runs a very similar offense, he's a guy that would come in and have a chance to hold Florida's recruiting class and maybe even strengthen it if he can bring a few players with him. He would provide an opportunity for Florida to reach into Texas and recruit players in addition to the wealth of talent in Florida. Florida could pay him the same kind of dollars or even more. I believe that Florida has to bring in a very high profile coach if they want to hold the advantage they currently have in the SEC. Bama is only going to get stronger under Saban. Florida State has a new incoming coach and they will almost certainly improve. Miami is up and coming under Shannon. LSU has been down but will be much improved in the next couple of years under Miles. Auburn is going to get better as well. I just think Florida has to get somebody who is high profile and is a top notch recruiter.
Stoops would be an interesting choice.
