Urban Meyer Heart Valve Muscle Defect: Florida head coach Urban Meyer announced his resignation on Saturday citing his health as the reason. Meyer was hospitalized for dehydration and chest pains following the SEC Championship Game and first thought is that could have something to do with whatever is wrong. At the moment, not much else is known (although some sources are stating Meyer has a heart problem) except that the Sugar Bowl will be his last game coaching the Gators. It is being said he will remain involved with the Florida football program. Meyer will hold a press conference tomorrow to publicly announce his resignation.
Urban Meyer health problem like Heart Valve Muscle Defect. So what is Heart Valve Muscle Defect? check it out:

Mitral regurgitation (MR), mitral insufficiency or mitral incompetence is a disorder of the heart in which the mitral valve does not close properly when the heart pumps out blood. It is the abnormal leaking of blood from the left ventricle, through the mitral valve, and into the left atrium, when the left ventricle contracts, i.e. there is regurgitation of blood back into the left atrium. MR is the most common form of valvular heart disease.

Some of you are amazing. I'm a diehard Gator Fan, here's the deal. Meyer has been beaten down physically and emotionally by this season. The expectation of this team were either championship or bust. Meyer often had to defend his team in victory. Winning became a relief not enjoyment. Meyer this season had to constantly defend his team even when they won. Beating SEC rivals buy double digits wasn't good enough, because the offense didn't look like a well oiled machine as it did in previous years.

The scrunity from the media and fans finally took it's toll. He was taken to the hospital after the SEC title game for dehydration. That loss really shook meyer and the whole team. Coach poured everything into this season, because he realized this was a special group. What seemed to be a nice fun undefeated season up until bama was anything but fun. Tebow struggled this year, the WR's struggled, o-line struggled. All those problems were masked because of the gators great defense, but bama solved that defense and the offense was exposed.

This job like most is a 365 day a year job. Meyer evaluates prospects at camps, he personally recruits players himself. He has a hand in everything. The man has given everything he has too the gator nation, but this year probably took a few years off of his life. Thanks Coach for everything and go spend time with your wife and family. The gator nation will always love you!!

I had the opportunity to attend a few events here in Utah when he was coach years ago - the guy is an amazing game planner and motivator.

As far as the timing goes, he wanted to give Machen as much time as possible to look for replacements than after the season.

A name you should keep an eye on: Chris Petersen. A darkhorse is Kyle Whittingham who Machen is quite familiar with from Utah.

He'll have to have the valve replaced. My wife had this done a couple of years ago and she's fine. The problem might be that he'll have to take blood thinners. He'll have to be careful on the sidelines.

Feel bad for anyone that is having health issues to have to resign, but I do NOT feel sorry for Florida and its jean shorts-wearing fanbase. Have fun suffering through another Zook-like era, chumps!

Excellent post! Perhaps he would like to take the greatest coaching stage ever as the next HC of the Dallas Cowboys. Knowing what we now know I guess that's a pipe dream... Are there any other young college coaches out there not names Stoops or Miles that we might be able to potentially snag?

That's because at least one of those wins was... shall we say... "referee aided" :D

This comes with the territory. Name the school, Michigan, Ohio State, Bama, Miami, FSU, Texas, OU, USC they are all like this. That's what a Big Time Job means.

Florida coach Urban Meyer, who announced Saturday night that he would step down after coaching the Gators against Cincinnati in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, is now having second thoughts about retirement, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Sunday.

Under a plan being discussed, Florida offensive coordinator Steve Adazzio would coach the Gators in the Sugar Bowl. Meyer, who cited health concerns as the reason for his retirement, would take a leave of absence and return to the team before the 2010 season.

However, a source close to the program told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Meyer would take a leave of absence for the entirety of the 2010 season. Adazzio would take over as interim coach for the season.

Meyer, who led the Gators to BCS national championships in 2006 and 2008, is scheduled to address media members in New Orleans at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in a statement Saturday. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family."

Who the hell cites medical reasons for stepping down, and then reverses their decision a day later?

If this is true, Urban Meyer is college football's ULTIMATE attention ***** (with apologies to Lane Kiffin). He loves the spotlight, that much we already knew but he just couldn't stand it that the Gators weren't #1 in the land, weren't even #1 in the SEC, and weren't going to be the big story come the first week of January so he made SURE that they would be. What an ******.

So what you're saying is he's the Brett Favre of coaching?

I actually understand it. He probably loves the game and doesn't want to give it up, so he decided just to take a hiatus from coaching instead of quitting altogether.
