Urlacher not all that impressive

Bottom line is that the Bears D was only able to force 2 THREE & OUTS all night. That says it all.

All this criticism of the Bears defense... I don't get it. Did someone think this was the 85 Bears?

Nope, this is what you get in a very watered-down league. The Bears were a pretty good defense, not a great one. And our defense was pretty good for most of the year, until December.

I'm not surprised people weren't impressed by what they saw yesterday. It wasn't that great, but that's the league we have today.

It's also why I want Phillips. With minimal change, this team could be right there competing for a Super Bowl, just like we saw yesterday.

are you crazy? He was all over the field. Go back and watch the film. He was in almost every tackle the entire game. I don't see how you could expect him to do more.

I think somebody popped in a dvd of the preseason games:laugh2:

Urlacher was a beast out there..

Urlacher does rely heavily on his DL to get the push against the opponents OL.

As far as the posters who stated that the DL had to keep the OL off Urlacher - that would be a valid point, except that Urlacher spent most of the game 5-10 yards off the line, as they were trying to shut down the pass.

more like 10-20 yards downfield. they were keeping him pretty deep.

If he's as bad as you guys have him he would fit right in here, we sure got some sad sack linebackers, other than Ware, not much to see here, the ones we gave to the Saints were better than the ones we kept...

After I watched him disappear against Shawn Alexander and the Seahawks, I figured it was just one game. But after the Saints never really tried to run, and then the Colts just ran through him, I was thinking, WOW. I counted play after play that he either got caught in the wash or over ran the play. He hasn't been a factor at all in the playoffs.

And not for nothing, but the Cowboys looked better against the Colts.

Did you also notice his DL getting blown off the ball?

I don't care who you are (at MLB) if your DL gets handled, you will be ineffective.

The guy is flat out great. Can we please have him -- not you -- us the Pats. Any team that has him, well, lucky, lucky you.

Flat out great.

Oh, but Grossman is up for grabs. Any takers??? Not.

I need someone to come clean the dog crap out of the back yard. I figure he qualified being that he's a "Crappy" QB.

Ray Lewis said Urlacher is one of the best linebackers in the league and I have no problems deferring to him on the issue.

All over the field? yes, but 8-10 yards down the field to make the tackle. The Colts ran for 190+ yards.

Urlacher is the best MLB in the game. He plays the run well and he is the best in pass defense and that is what the game is about today. Just ask anyone that game plans when they watch Roy Williams in pass defense.

:hammer: I am amazed at the things this guy does from that position.
Stating he's over-hyped is obvious "other team envy", IMO.

He is a very good player but is slightly over hyped. He has great speed for his size, and plays well against the pass and run. But he is not a sure tackler, and does over pursue fairly consistently.

But I cant say that most guys wouldnt want him on their team. Lance Briggs had a piss poor game last night which surprised me though, and I like him.

Depends on who you ask, I guess. From an SI poll:
"Apparently, winning defensive player of the year honors last season didn't open enough eyes for Brian Urlacher. In a poll released this week by Sports Illustrated, the Bears middle linebacker was named the second-most overrated player in the league. The survey was done during the summer with 361 players responding to that question, less than half the number polled on a variety of topics."
