Depending on how the groups play out this time it wouldn't surprise me to see a Argentina vs Brazil finals that's the only way i see a non Euro team playing in the finals. Germany and Spain are very capable of winning but i would be shocked if Brazil didn't take it in Brazil, they're peaking just at the right time.

Argentina is definitely insanely talented up front with guys like Messi, Aguero, Tevez, Di Maria, Lavezzi, etc... But I am not too confident in their defense. Brazil on the other hand has arguably the best pairing of CB's in the world with Silva (the best CB IMO) and Luiz (I prefer Dante) with their questions being on the wing backs pushing too far forward. With those CB's though Brazil can definitely win on home soil. I think Germany can take them but we shall see. A healthy Gotze with a season of experience for Bayern can go a long way, I think. Something they were missing this summer.

Yes but it's no different than being interested in the depth of the Cowboys. Some of these guys are playing for World Cup spots. I just enjoy watching the US team whenever possible regardless of who suits up.

No I didn't mean it like that. IT's interesting to me too.

I just think some in here were suggesting that this tourney had an effect on the world cup rosters and how they would perform.

Nah, it was a jab at someone suggesting a while back the Mexico would easily make the semi finals of the WC next year and that they where just as good if not better then most European teams which was laughable at the time and even more so now.
B squad or not if they have such a deep world class talent pool to pick from then fielding a team that could at the very least make it to the finals of the gold cup shouldn't have been much of a problem

Mexico just isn't very good and I was actually of the belief that they would be a really good dark horse for this next world cup but what i've seen the last 2 years makes me think they have no chance to do much in that tournament.

In fact I think the United States is better then Mexico at this point.

Agreed. Mexico was coming off a win over Brazil and a great showing in the U21s a year ago. Now they can't score to save their own lives.

The US was terrible a year ago but Klinsman has the offensive weapons he wants now and it is a dogfight to even make the US club now.

If FIFA would clear Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle Sounders) to play for the US, it would change the midfield and give the US team a huge boost. Mexico is weird, I think the team lacks direction which is apparent as I believe they just fired the coach.

Actually the argument was/is essentially how much you overrate mediocre European clubs, lol.
Europe isn't any different than South America. The mainstays are great, the majority can play but their are tons of soft spots.

The SPI has South America with 4 of the top 6 teams in the world. Has an even split of 5 and 5 with Europe for the top 10.
Hardly a perfect ranking system but a bit stronger than FIFA.
England stands out to me as woefully overrated at 8.

Mexico is in a terrible way RIGHT NOW but the talent is there to make a run up to and show well in the WC.
Will be interesting to see if they grab a new coach in the next month.

If I have to pick a Finals today I'd pick Belgium/Brazil.
The world has spent 2 years analyzing Spain and Germany can go cold on offense at times.

But Uruguay/Argentine/Chile could all make the Finals.

The Honey Badger would make the squad for sure but not sure he'd be a big difference maker.
Cuba isn't releasing him so he is probably stuck.
Bummer the way the cap ties work for those who defect.

a 2nd tier European club like Poland or Denmark could easily win the gold cup that's the level Mexico at their best sit on. They are WC regulars just like the US because they get to play the likes of Montserrat to qualify. It's not me overrating European teams it's people overrating the likes of Mexico and their results back my argument up. Maybe they'll turn it around and do something is a far cry from easy money bet a year ago to make the semis is it not?

U21 results don't really mean crap, Norway finished 3rd in the U21 Euro cup last month and our future is just as bleak as it was prior to that

What? Mexico does not have many Premier League players. Chicharito is the ONLY Mexican player in the Premier League at the moment.

US currently has Howard, Dempsey, Altidore, Shea, Friedel, Guzan, Cameron, and Edu in the Premier League.

European qualifying is the hardest region to qualify for a world cup in the entire world. Most football fans will tell you that the Euro competition has deeper talent than the World Cup. Brazil and Argentina will make their runs at the World Cup but I have an extremely hard time believing Mexico will. For one, Mexico isn't South America and currently they do not stack up to the talent level of South America very well at all. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile are all better than Mexico at the moment.

Mexico should be dominating the Gold Cup with their B team but they are not. Currently USA has a more talented A and B squad than Mexico.

Easy there. The last time Usa played Mexicos A team Mex destroyed them 4-2. Game wasnt that close. Gio Dos Santos was just above anybody USA could put on him.

Our attack is impressive with Altidore actually being a presence out there..

We're good enough to find a goal against just about anyone.

Our defending is what scares me.

If we were to play a club like Spain we would need to play as many guys back as possible and just get lucky off a set piece or counter.

I completely agree, mid tear UEFA teams like Poland and Serbia are right there with the US and Mexico. They are not overrated. Mexico is easily one of the most overrated squad every single year and that is just because the fans overrate them.

Belgium? Hahahahahahaha

Brazil is pretty much a shoe in if you ask me.

Spain is due for a downer. Italy had a decent Confed Cup.

England will go in with a ton of hype but will collapse.

I would like France to do well but I am sure they will have a rebellion or something of the sort.

Belgium is no joke at all and Spain is still in peak form with many great young players coming up for them to last longer. Also, yes Mexico out shot them (they only had 3 shots on goal) but it was in the Azteca and they drew.
