A source has told Scout.com that USC wide receiver Patrick Turner is scheduled to visit the Tennessee Titans on April 14 and the Dallas Cowboys on April 16 and 17.

A two-year starter for the Trojans, Turner caught 138 passes for 1,752 yards and 17 touchdowns during his college career.

At 6-foot-5, 223 pounds, he's a big target who pulled-in ten of those touchdown catches during his senior year.

Turner is an unselfish player whose transition to the NFL should go smoothly due to his experience in USC's pro-style offense.

With 48 game appearances dating back to his freshman season, he's a stable and steady talent who runs good routes and who will lay out for a pass, using his long arms and good hands to pull in an errant throw.

Patrick Turner.

I dont know how serious the Cowboys and Jets are about Miles Austin but i think the Cowboys are covering all thier bases. The perfect scenario is for Austin to leave for a second, draft Turner in a late round, and sign Terry Holt or trade for Braylen Edwards with a third/fifth/Sam Hurd...I can dream cant I?

The title for this thread is pretty misleading.

We already have a Turner type. No thanks.

The best case scenario is to match the offer and keep Austin. And no I don't like your plan at all.

Even if Patrick Turner reverses the recent history of large USC wideouts failing to flourish in the NFL, he isn't a field stretcher in the mold of Miles Austin.

Turner is a possession receiver and he will likely need the usual 2-3 years of experience before developing a role if he lasts that long.

Austin has developed over his first three seasons and appears poised for a breakout campaign. I would be disappointed if that occurs with the New York Jets instead of the Dallas Cowboys.

We live in an age of instant gratification, but the slow approach in the NFL often provides better long term results, IMO.

Patrick Turner is a freaking possession receiver, we already have that in Crayton.

Miles Austin could beat Turner in a foot race running backwards, Austin is a flat out burner.

I may be the only one here but I've jumped on the Turner bandwagon. I think he can be solid right away, nothing really special but can contribute to this team.

I've been on the Turner bandwagon since the combine. I think he's got excellent hands and can move the chains in any system. I think drafting Turner is a good move in the right direction. I wouldn't be surprised at all, if the Cowboys draft 3 WR's.

What if Austin can't get separation as a starter against the corners he will face?

What is your plan B?

Mine is hope Britt falls within reach of the 51st and maybe a 5th to move up for this guy.

One game against Green Bay has not sold me Austin is nothing more than Billy Davis.

Also what if he gets hurt again? He's already shown that he can get injured in a "limited" role again and again. Why on earth would I be convinced that he can make it through a full season...

Yep. Assuming we retain Austin, we need a small waterbug speed/playmaking slot WR. We don't need another big outside WR.

MIles Austin 2008 production

vs Cleveland - 0 catches 0yards
vs Phil........ - 2 catches 12 yards
vs Grn Bay.. - 2 catches 115 yards
vs Wash..... - 3 catches 45 yards
vs Cinn....... - 0 catches 0 yards
vs Az......... - 1 catch 14 yards
vs StLouis... - 2 catches 43 yards
vs T Bay..... - 0 catches 0yards
vs NYG....... - 0 catches 0yards
vs Wash..... - 2 catches 26 yards
vs San Fran - 0 catches 0yards
vs Seattle.. - 0 catches 0yards
vs Pitt....... - 0 catches 0yards
vs NYG...... - 1 catch 23yards
vs Balt....... - 0 catches 0yards
vs Phil........ - 0 catches 0yards

I guess I don't see this break-out season coming. He played in 12 games and had 13 catches for 278.

Taking into consideration this guy also had TO taking the double and Austin was normally against a nickle back, this is not that impressive.

He may be the second coming of Alvin harper. But I think the fuss people are making about him is a bit much.

Because nobody ever gets hurt in this game.

Or have we forgotten the year Rocket was our number one guy?

Who ? Roy ?

I've liked Patrick Turner since he was being recruited by USC from Tennessee, but I must admit that he didn't live up to expectations. I thought he was going to be the next Keyshawn.

To an extent. Crayton too. They're all basically possession receivers. We need speed at WR. We need quickness. These guys don't provide that dimension...not that Roy isn't fast...he's just not quick.

I don't really have anything against him, I'd just rather see us get a super quick WR. The annoying type.
