I think Brown would be a nice find in the 2nd round... He could man the LT position for years to come with a little grooming.

At 6-5 and 303 lbs he's big enough... Along with a 35 1/4 arm reach.

303 is really small for a LT anymore. Even zone blocking lines.

i have to say i prefer saffold to c brown.

I think I'd probably go the other way Woods. I like both players but I think Brown probably has more athleticism for the LT position.

I don't know that Brown's size is that big an issue.

Last year, Jason Smith was the second overall pick in the draft, out of Baylor and I don't know that many wouldn't have wanted him last year. Jason Smith was 6'5" 309 lbs., Charles Brown is 6'5" 303 lbs. Both were former TEs who made position changes to OT. If you look at the average weight of all starting LTs in the NFL, they average 318 lbs. I think that Brown will easily add 20 to 25 lbs as he gets into an NFL training program.

I really don't see the problem. If we were drafting him to start day one, then perhaps but that's not what I believe we would be doing if we took a LT in the draft.

Bingo... And he can put on an extra 10 to 15 lbs and be outstanding.

Averaging OTs takes into account some lousy ones. If you look at the top OTs, most of them are bigger then Brown. I kind of doubt he will put on much weight since USC has one of the best weight/strength programs in college football. This idea that everyone can add lots of weight is flawed; if the player comes from a small school without a good weight/strength program, it is valid. BUT most players come from Div 1, and most of those schools now have very good to great weight/strength programs. Veldheer, from little Hilsdale, probably can make some significant gains. PROBABLY. Because you also have to look at each player as an individual; some can add weight, some cannot. To just blindly claim everyone coming into the NFL can add 10-15 lbs and get a lot stronger is foolish.

Have no problem with taking him. I'm sure some will complain, but he has a ton of upside.

I can't agree with this. These kids are 23 and 24 years old, sometimes younger. Your body is not even close to filling out to it's maturity potential at that age. Adding 10 to 20 lbs is not uncommon at all. This says nothing of other means by the NFL adds weight and we all know that this happens.

I agree that many of the OT, good or bad, are bigger but not that much bigger.

Joe Thomas' playing weight is 312.
Brandon Albert of KC is 316.
Jake Long of Miami is 317.

These are three of the highest rated tackles coming out the last few years and they are all less then 15 pounds heavier then would be Brown. The scouting report on Brown says that he has not fully developed physically and has plenty of room for growth on his frame. I guess I just think that the natural ability and the willingness of players to work hard are more important factors. I mean, if you can't add weight to a player, then you don't have much of a strength coach or program IMO.

Said it better than I could have. I wonder if there are any players who don't add weight when they get in the NFL that actually want to add weight. Especially linemen. It's more of a body maturity kind of deal, in addition to not worrying about classes and actually having a full time nutrition and exercise program tailored for your position and your job. It's almost impossible for a lineman not to add weight if that's what he wants.

People look at some weights and think that's the norm. Geez, I wonder why Flo's considered big or the hotel and just 340 lbs. 315 is perfect weight for an OT and this kid can gain that in 2 or 3 weeks, let alone an offseason of weight training.

I have to agree... Brown in Dallas weight program will be at 310-315 in no time.
