Use Turpin like Deebo Samuel

The Romans were famously good at taking what their opponents used to beat them and reinventing it into something that was better. For example, when they battled the Phoenicians during the Punic Wars, the Phoenicians were particularly good at sailing. After a battle, the Romans learned how to maneuver their boats better and used a contraption that allowed a ramp to spike down onto the end of the boat and fight on essentially the boat to shift the advantage to them as they were better on land.

I use this historical reference to say that we can do something similar with Turpin. One thing that the 49ers beat us with was using Deebo Samuel on various running routes and fakes to set up the other plays. I think we can copy that and outdo them on that. Turpin is lethal with the ball in his hands. So, not only should we see jetsweeps, but maybe we can run other plays such as direct snaps to him and have him essentially read option it where he can run with it, or toss it to Dak on a reverse and have Dak throw it to him on a corresponding route. Plays like this can be used creatively to take what the 49ers did and use it as an even bigger weapon against other teams with Turpin.

The Cowboys don't have a Deebo type player on this team.
You can play anyone you like in a Deebo role but you're not going to get the same results.
That's not true. Pollard is very similar. The issue is we have kellem Moore and not Shanahan

You will notice teams like the Rams 49ers and Seahawks before the wheels came off shuffle personnel in and out with fresh legs and schemes . I’ve heard this over the years as Dallas lined up the defense knew what was coming .

Not to go off topic but to be honest out of
the three RB’s in preseason Dowdle showed the least . What’s the point of keeping players on the roster on offense you don’t utilize as a threat. Turpins not a big receiver , so what . Use the mans skills . SPEED ELUSIVE.

6', 215 vs 5-7, 170

Use Tony Pollard more as a WR...Pollard was the most dynamic athlete on offense last season.

Turpin will be like Deion Sanders. He may make a great vertical play every now and then, and the defense will have to respect what he is doing, as long as he shows that same speed he did in the preseason, but if we’re counting on him to turn the season around, it needs to be on special teams, not on the offense. You see guys like Devin Hester prove that can happen, Turpin certainly has the skills to do that, but it’s a longshot.

But he is not Deebo.

You are right, Mr. Kill. Turpin is no Deebo. Not yet.
I think the post was more in the spirit of what can be if we have tha guts to use Pollard as No. 1 and Deebo as a short-field receiver and Pollard doing his blue-collar off left and right tackles.
Alas, we have no imagination for this scheme.

These six words invalidated your entire post.

Turpin will be like Deion Sanders.. on the offense… and assuming he utilizes that speed at the NFL Level.

I know it’s two words soundbite world, but that was what I said in my post, not what you replied.

I still do not understand the "Deion on the offense" suggestion.

I still do not understand the "Deion on the offense" suggestion.

We used to throw Deion out there as a third or fourth receiver, and he could make some great vertical plays because of his speed, defenses had to honor it. But it always felt as more of the gimmick because of our declining overall talent then a real game changer. Coaches just trying to do whatever it takes to win.

This is the much more likely scenario. Pollard still wont be what Deebo was, especially as a receiver, but he could possibly give you 75% of the production deebo had which still carries a lot of value for your RB2.
Yeah Pollard isn't Deebo either but he at least has shown his body can uphold somewhat. I don't think people realize how small Turpin is to suggest we play him like Deebo.

I am very aware of how Deion Sanders was incorporated into the gameplan back in the day.

This is just nothing of the kind. I guess if you think that Turpin being fast is the same, indulge yourself.

Whatever dude. Of course it’s the same, I don’t know about all the Deebo Samuel talk, Turpin wouldn’t last more than five seconds taking that kind of punishment. But I do know he can do the same as Deion and threaten a defense in the vertical game. Just the other day I was listening to Nate Newton talk about it on his podcast and basically called out Kellen Moore saying if he wants to be creative, to stop the stupid jet sweeps and get creative with someone like this guy the length of the field.

Additionally, having a bit of imagination in American Football is very useful. A lot of advancements came from coaches having the creativity to try something new and/or unexpected.

I don't think a receiver of his stature is going to threaten the length of the field unless Moore has some Andy Reid in him.
