So we have 12 picks, what did that get us the last time we had that many? Realistically, what do you expect from a 7th rounder? Unless these picks are used to package them in trades for 3-4th rounder, these picks are nothing. I just don't see the need to stockpile 7th round picks. Stockpile 3-5th round picks.

Well we have found players in the 7th, but thats besides the point. They can be used to move up in that particular draft or future drafts. It can actually be used as a building block to having more picks every year, not just in one year.

Seeing the FO do this should make every single Cowboy fan grin from ear to ear, instead of complaining all the time, give them props for something good for a change.

I want no part of the 4th round.....that is our garbage round. However, we tend to do great in the 2nd, 6th, and 7th

It was good what they did cause the picks can be used for package deals during trade deadline, offseason or draft.

The first thing people have to consider is this; we have 4 compensatory picks coming our way in the 2014 nfl draft. You can't trade compensatory draft picks.

We used our 6th round draft pick and traded it for a player and a 7th round draft pick.

We traded Rosario and Lissemore for 7th round draft picks.

That's a lot of movement, and I couldn't begin to tell you how many picks we have. Not sure if we had our original 7th rounder or not, but I digress.

I found it ironic that people were complaining about trading down from the 6th rounder, when we've been able to more than supplement that pick.

We probably would have cut Rosario and Lissemore, they were already on the bubble. We got value for them. And it isn't to say we're going cheap as a couple people alluded. But rather you can use those 7th rounders for a number of things. I think we took a cap hit on trading Lissemore, but it should open things up next year where we won't have his 1.4 million on the books.

1) Going after players that you would normally have to fight for as UDFAs.
2) The actual picks we have (non-compensatory) we can use to trade up in some of those mid rounds. Say you want someone in the 4th, but you have to move up a couple spots to get him. Those 7th round draft picks will come in handy. Also could let us jump back into the 6th round if we want.

These are smart moves by our front office. When they mess up everyone acknowledges is, but when they do a good job? You still try to smack them down. It's small of you.

I actually was a pretty big fan of the moves very good news. Picks in the draft are like currency they're always worth something draft day, next draft is really gonna be fun.

Some years back we had (3)7th rounders, and one of them was used on Patrick Crayton. Jay Ratliff was a 7th rounder, as was Alan Ball. If nothing else, these picks can be used on potential UDFA's who we want to lock down.

I would have like to have seen us get more value for Lissemore. But, I'm glad to see that they are trying to unload guys that they don't have room for or plans for the future and getting picks instead. We can take those 7th round picks and use them to trade up as a 'sweetener' in a trade and we can always find a valuable special teams player there as well.

Excellent points.. Just one thing, how or why do you believe we are taking a cap hit on Liss?

When you trade a player their remaining prorated signing bonus accelerates into your current year salary cap. That remaining bonus outweighed his 2013 base salary as well as his 2013 signing bonus, so I classified it as a hit.
