No, fans are confused because Quinn has him playing a different style than he played previously.

Quinn uses him as a Stack & Shed LB.
- That's basically the equivalent of a 2-gap DLineman.
- To play Stack & Shed a LB must stay center on the blocker (usually in interior OLineman).
- Because OLineman weigh about 310 to 320 and LVE weighs 255, he must give up ground to maintain positioning.
- With Stack & Shed, the LB must avoid getting trapped to either side of the blocker until the ball carrier has committed to that side.

LVE playing Stack & Shed allows Parsons more freedom to play as a Rover and not have to maintain specific gap integrity.

Neal is the coverage specialist LB and replaces LVE on 3rd and medium/long type situations as well as other likely passing situations.
- Neal generally plays Run & Hit, not Stack & Shed.

For whatever reason, LVE is running better now than he was early in the season.
- He is actually above average in coverage as a LB.

Good post!!

I would sit LVE. He made it through 16 games without getting injured. It would be awful if he got injured in game 17, a meaningless game against the Eagles.
We need LB's.

Agree. Never know who will end up on the flu list next.

His strength is notably weaker.

Even in the 50 burger we put on Washington, LVE had a TE run down the field and right through his arms 1 on 1

I would prefer to go get a dude that can run next year. I want super fast tackling machine type guys. LVE is too big and lumbering.

So is there really an excuse for the defense not to play at a high level throughout the playoffs? Every weakness seems to have been fixed. LVE is playing well. Hooker is healthy and can take over for a struggling Kazee. Gallimore has made DT a strength. CBs are playing at a high level. DEs are healthy and dominant.

I mean, if you want to live in a fantasy land where DT is a strength and our DEs are dominant, sure they have no excuses.

LVE is playing decent – serviceable ball that allows us to compete better – he’s not a difference maker. He’s not a game changer.
Not the 1st round LB we thought we’d be getting after his great rookie season.

I’ll never understand why he fell off as such, aside from the constant injuries.. maybe so many different defensive coaches and coordinators, schemes ?
But fumbles, INTs, big length in the passing lanes, stops for losses, sacks – we don’t see big plays from him.

But knock on wood, in a contract year, that he has somehow managed to stay up and healthy, something that was so very major for most of his career.
Some team may take a chance on him in FA period, given that he's played injury free
Stephen will no doubt offer him low ball bargain a 2 year option clause contract, but don’t expect a big value contract.

I think Jaylon and LVE didn’t mesh well on the field.

(I’m sure they’re best buds off it.)
