David Veikune already has several suitors. He had a solid Senior Bowl, and bench-pressed 225 pounds 35 times at the NFL Combine.

Veikune is going to visit the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys.

"I'm going to be busy," Veikune said.

I could see him as an ILB. Too slow for OLB, and probably too small for DE.

Funny, I was just reading more stuff on him, and thehuddlereport.com suggested that he could fit as an ILB as well.

If we're meeting with Veikune, I really hope we're going to meet with Kruger (for ILB as well).

I disagree, I think he'd be an OLB. The guy is a pass rusher, and that's what he'd be for us. Why would we move him inside to an unfamiliar position when we could just draft an insider backer?

I really love the people we seem to be looking at. Most of them are like Veikune -- maybe not the greatest athletes, but guys with great motors and heart... Just football players. Remember that quote from someone on the staff that that was exactly what this team needed?

Yes, I was thinking about that quote today.

We're looking at football players this draft, not just athletes.

This guy looks like the kind of guy Pittsburgh drafts and they plug in, and he is productive for 5-10 years. I think he plays OLB and gets pressure on the QB.

NFL Draft Scout compares him to Brian Robison coming out of college...

I just read an article that stated several scouts think Veikune can be an effective rush outside linebacker in a 34. That is where he is being projected.

He ran in the 4.8s today and was disappointed. However, the teams are interested in his footwork.

This is Bat's guy. Hey, bring him in. I want iEllis out of here. He gives us another option.

Edit:

Gil Brandt said he ran a 4.75 and 4.80. That is lower than the other times I saw.

Dallas needs a 3rd pass rusher, not the 40 yard dash champion.

Bunting rated this guy at # 45 in his top 100., and he rated him in the 2nd round tier. He gives him to the Colts in round 2 of his latest 3 round mock.

I think if Sibury Jr. goes before 51, and I think that could definately happen, Veikune would be a great addition in round 2 or 3.

He is a power player, and I'm kind of partial to speed. However, I want football players, and this guy is a football player.

Finally! Veikune said he ran a 4.79 at the combine, that's where the reports of the sub 4.8's come from.

Veikune was a stud in the LB drills, I have no doubt he can play 3-4 OLB at the next level_his agility, ability to flatten the edge, burst & physicality make up for his lack of straight line LONG speed. He is also very good in coverage, that may be why there are projections for him to play ILB (4-3 or 3-4).

I liken Veikune to Lamar Woodley, who also posted slow 40's. I want more high effort, high character players w/instincts & physicality. Veikune is a football player, 40 times can't show that.

He was UH's best lineman by far. He was doubled on almost every play, sometimes tripled. He does get tired at the end of games. This year, he got more pressure than sacks, but was still effective. As a part time player last year, I think he got 12 sacks and was named to 1st team All WAC. This year as a starter and full time player, I thought he played 10 times better, but only got 2nd team.

Thanks for the information. He was productive for two years. That is one criteria Dallas looks for. He will not have to worry about getting tired, because he will be used as a third rusher in the Cowboys package and to spell Ware or Spencer. Phillips will find ways to get him on the filed if they draft him.

I think Dallas will draft him if Lawrence Sidbury is gone, and I think there is a good chance Sidbury's workouts will get him drafted higher than 51.

I think Sidbury Jr. and Veikune are seriously on the radar. I think one of these guys will be drafted by Dallas.

I like Veikune better than Larry Englsh. I'm on the wagon.:)

Veikune makes a lot more sense to me than Sidbury. I don't get what makes Sidbury so much better than the likes of Cody Brown, even.

Larry English doesn't look special at all to me, and *** is up with the Robert Ayers hype?

I for one, LOVE the hype. Hopefully that means productive players w/less than stellar combine numbers continue to fall. Cowboys can scoop em up in the middle rounds.

Sidbury has 34+ inch arms and hasn't reached his full potential. In a 34, he gets to stand up and drop back in coverage. He has 4.5 speed, and he weighs 267. He is quick and has the ability to explode of the edge. He projects well in the NFL.

Importantly, Sidbury could rush the passer from both sides. He needs to get stronger in his legs. That may prevent a 2-gap team from drafting him if they want immediate dividends. A team like Dallas, just needs a young third rusher that doesn't cost $ 6.25 million dollars.

Robert Ayers may the be best run defending DE in the draft. If he gets to play in a 34, his pass rush ability may get better.

Not trashing Sidbury, but Veikune is already stronger and better against the run, even at only 257 lbs. Veikune will also get better (and bigger, the guy has barely any fat on him), he has only been a starter one year (even though he was a stud pass rushing specialist his Jr year). Veikune also has better instincts/ability in coverage (despite his slower 40) and better pass rushing technique.

My biggest fear re Sidbury is not drafting him, but drafting him on the first day. He is a true project.

Sidbury ran his much-celebrated 40 time at almost 20 pounds lighter than what people are claiming he weighs.

My bad, sorry about that. I had read somewhere that he weighed 250. My head hangs with shame. :(

edit: Although, the 40 was apparently 4.64, not 4.53. Not that I ever had intended to take away from his impressiveness as a specimen--it's just that 4.53 at 270 seemed too good to be true.
