IF you wanna sign a WR, great - however, our first two picks should be CB and Safety , UNLESS there's a solid LT available.

We're not taking a safety in the first round unless his name is Reggie Smith.

We'll probably draft a RB like Felix Jones with our second pick.

Great article by Vela.

Glenn is finished.

I'd take Stallworth or Berrian.

You know, I mostly agree. The deal is even if Glenn isn't finished, you have to be able to play at a high level if both Glenn and TO are out of it.

We'll need that kind of depth now. Good article by Vela.

David.

Don't mind Burm, he is either an Ohio St. fan or one of the guys who doesn't consider the Big 10 a real conference.

PS. Sorry Ohio St fans for dropping you a level :p:

I'm curious on what your thoughts are on the WR opposite him? I believe I saw were Adrian Arrington has declared?

Article is right on the problem.......even in G.Bay game: Austin behind D 2x and got lucky enough to draw 2 penalties

Austin was way behind the Gints D middle/Late of 4 Qtr but Romo was running for his life, maybe the play Romo gave the business to Kosier/Gurode?

That "deep threat" is gonna have to be a guy that can also screen off a quik slant with a bigger body......as we are gonna see a ton of Philly Jim Johnson type D schemes (4 in our division alone) next year

that looks like Austin too, the kid is smooth out of his break and getting into his route, and has the big body to shield the defender

I really can't wait to see how he reacts next year, the crucial 3rd year for receivers, because he has alot of talent and can do so many things for us

well Romo has to work on his deep passes for any deep threat to work though

He should have stayed his senior year. He was progressing very nicely and made him self noticed in the Bowl game.

Michigan is gonna really miss him.

He's good but I am afraid he will end up like Avant, a mediocre receiver.

well, we finished '07 ranked 2nd in the NFL in passing plays of 20 yards or more, so I think Romo is doing alright

no, i mean deep passes as in 40-50 yard deep passes. so does the article or according to your stat we wouldn't need a deep threat

20 and plus pass plays are considered deep, you don't see QBs aiming for 40 and 50 yard bombs very much because it is such a low-percentage throw

true but farve, manning(both) and brady had some good deep passes this year. you gotta try them once in a while to keep the D off balance

we do try them, what you're not getting is that 20 yard and plus pass plays is the barometer of a good, vertical passing attack, which is why that stat was highlighted so many times when referencing New England and Dallas

yeah, you'd prefer to complete a 70 yard bomb as opposed to a 20-yard out, but that doesn't happen very often

It would be great to get a D Branch type.

I think Hackett is another WR at Seattle with deep speed, and he should be affordable.

I would prefer Berrien, but I think he'll have a lot of interest and he won't be as affordable as we're all hoping.

Stallworth's durability concerns me a bit. At least that was an issue at NO.

And I really wonder if the Lions would trade R Williams for a 2nd . . . . not sure I buy that rumor.
Is J Gage of Tenn considered a WR with any deep speed? I think he's available as well.
I'm not either. He was a top-10 pick who has been productive so why Detroit give him away for a 2nd? I'd take it in a heartbeat though if it were true. Maybe our own 1st rounder for Roy? That might do the trick if Detroit really wants him gone.....

As we saw when TO was down and Glenn was out, when we do not have a real deep threat things start to collapse. We need another guy the D will respect; and that is not Austin or Hurd. Stanback MIGHT be the guy- but no way to tell and he is at least another year away from making a big impact.

I graduated from Iowa and still a fan (just more of a ND fan) and I watch Big Ten every year. The 4 Michigan games I watched Manningham was playing and he was not impressive. Yes every now and then he would make a pretty good play; but in those 4 games he did not impress me at all. I liked Arrington better.

Exactly. Doubt Detroit wants to let Roy Willilams go but if a player wants out with only one year remaining on his contract it is tough to keep him. I would think Detroit wants a first for him but might take a 2nd rather then get nothing for him.

On the other hand, look how smart the Pats were to get Wes Welker for a 4th & a 7th. That's called smart scouting. Of course the Pats played Welker twice a year so they got a chance to carefully study him. Before we even think about guys like Williams, etc are there any WRs on the Giants/Eagles/Skins who would fill the bill and will be FAs or that we could get in a trade like Pats did with Welker? Frankly I don't think so. But then Welker wasn't Welker with the Dolphins (didn't have much of a QB anyway) before they got him.

We do, thank God, finally have 2 big advantages. The Cowboys are now a legit SB contender -- not like the Pats but who else is -- and we also got a great young QB which would attract available WRs. Only a dumb WR signs with a team whose got no/bad QB.

I believe he came out because of the new coaching scheme. The new coach isn't exactly a passing offense.

Yea, it seems that a lot of Iowa fans like Arrington.... wonder why? ;)

Arrington does have the better hands (some of the catches he made during his career where sick), but Manningham is the true playmaker. Better speed, better routes.

Only thing that you have to watch out for with Mario is his lackadaisical attitude and a penchant for the weed. However, I think TO would really take him under his wing.

I believe that may have been the case also.

Mallet has already transferred (to Arkansas)

Not sure what we are going to do as far as QB.
