Vernon Gholston

Like I said in another thread, Gholston graduated from my high school alma mater. It's a source of pride for me, but if he gets suspended for being juiced, what a waste. Guys just don't seem the same once they get off that stuff.

He was a sophmore there too....

To the Pats at #7 (49r's pik)....Need LB'rs as much as anyone in a 3-4 scheme

He will be long gone by 7th or 8th pick. But guy does have questionable motor though. There is no question about his Athletic ability. Forget his Combine numbers or workout numbers, when he decides to play, he is a beast.

Probably better then Chris Long on ability, but Chris is more of a sure thing.

I'm confused...how would the coach cheat for him at a Pro Day? Aren't there NFL scouts and such at the pro days timing him and such themselves? I really don't think the coach calling out some BS numbers, that the NFL scouts who are there could easily, and quickly would, debunk would do him or his player any good.

I might be totally wrong on whose at those things but I could have swore pro scouts were there.

I was never overly impressed with him on the field.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's juiced, either.

Did you see him abuse Jake Long this past year? I am not sure how that is not impressive, but, you can also be right in the sense, he doesn't always show up.

There were games I saw, he wasn't overly impressive either, and thats the big knock on him.

In the Michigan game, Gholston lined up primarily against the RT. Long gave up 1 sack in that game, but that was by Larimore, not Gholston.

Great. A LBer in the NFL has the same speed as Stanback.

Is there anyone who can't cover Stanback?

No, he was pushing Jake around some and beat him couple times, when he lined up against. Gholston was moving around, even if was primarily lined against RT.

Mike Yayock had a tape of it too, so its not like I am remembering it wrong.

Long pretty much shut him down whenever he was on his side. He had one play against Long where he got a nice burst inside (the play that Mayock showed), but Long was able to push him off his line to the QB and Henne got the ball off. There was another play where Long drove him off the LOS like 10 yards. That might have been a TD run by Hart. Don't get me wrong, Gholston had a great day that day, but it was because he was going up against the RT, not Jake Long.

I distinctly remember Golston beating Long on the outside, when he almost sacked Henne or maybe he tackled RB ( not sure it was hart or someone else), for a loss or barely no gain. Either way, he gave Long fits when he lined up against him, especially when he rushed the passer few times to his side because he was getting the off the ball so quickly. But once Long lays a hand on anyone, its over.

I have seen every Michigan game and I know Long never had issues with any DE other than Golston, even against so called Speed guys of Florida. And I know he has a great day, regardless of who he was lining up against, since I was pissed that Jake didn't dominate him when he lined up against Golston. Especially since Jake is considered one of the Best OT ever for Michigan, considering the Michigan legacy, that is high priase for him.

Oh, beating RT, that day wouldn't have been a great feat for Golston, since it was a revolving door for Michigan last year. I was only impressed because he had good day against Long, although it might have been just 2-3 plays. Because personally, from what I have seen Long, nobody ever beats him or rarely beats him on more than one occasion anyway, well in college so far.
