Vickers Waived

Dallas has never really fully committed to it, partly because Garrett always wanted to find a fullback like Moose and never fully set the position aside. Now, without a fullback in camp to fall back on, Dallas is forced to find ways to get the running game going with two tight ends.

After all this talk about the 12 and drafting Escobar, watch us go and sign Vonta Leach now. ;)

Disclaimer: I am kidding and do not believe this will happen

You can better utilize a good F back these days. I really like running a F back from a move position. I think Rosario and Hanna can do the job. U don't have to blow people up every time to block effectively.

I recall a while back Bill Parcells talked about how FB was a dying position. I think at one point folks really got to ride Hos because we were carrying multiple kickers and no FB.

I also like to highlight over and over when Garrett's approaches match Parcells as I think they are very similar

Would love it if they did, just because he's a fellow ECU alum and gives back to the school. Would be cool to have he and Harris on my favorite team. Not saying it is what they should do. Would just be cool for me.

Not surprised... He blocked like he was a 1/8th back.

I think his performance and the injuries were enough to warrant the move. I don't think we've seen our last FB in Big D though. We've tried to replace them with TE's on several occasions and it never worked out.

Edit: I see someone beat me to it, so I'll just +1 the sentiment.

As the most informed around the CowboyZone could see coming, after Dallas Drafted TE Escobar and then signed Free Agent TE Rosario, the sands fell faster the for the FB FB Vickers.

That's a valid point.

I think the overall depth at the position is much better than the two previous attempts.

I would definitely agree with you there, no doubt.

I already love Witten but I'm excited to see what Hanna brings in year two and what they have in Escobar.

Heck, I'm even excited about what Rosario will bring.

They undoubtedly have some good depth, arguably as good as any team in the league in my opinion.

I wish him the best...its a shame that the fullback position has pretty much become irrelevant. Loved watching "Moose" play in his prime. Even though i was really young to see it, i really appreciate what a capable fullback can bring to the table.

I liked him as locker room guy. I hope someone else rises up to being that same locker room guy. I felt like he was a huge reason that Bengals game the day after the whole Brent/Brown situation happened went the way it did. I wish him the best. I think the cutting has more to do with us going away from using a fullback as opposed him not being able to block anymore. Great guy though. Got to meet him a few times. The most humble guy you'll ever meet.

I called this months ago. Releasing Vickers saves us 1.2 million dollars. 1.2 million dollars is a lot of money for a player who wasn't going to see the field very often. The guy cost about as much as our entire tight end group minus witten, combined.

And as others have said, he didn't play well last year. Fiammetta signed with the Bears. If we're going to sign another fullback it would probably be Leach if we could get him for a good price. That being said, echoing others' sentiments, we'll likely go without a fullback this year.

That assumes Hanna and Escobar do well but I agree with that assumption. We're looking good at TE.

The team will miss that aspect. I wish him well.

Knew you were kidding but I missed the fine print several times before seeing it. Yikes! And I've got new glasses. I hate this growing old crap! :)

Vickers didn't play well last year so it's not a shock to me... Missed numerous blocks, it was horrible!

He was a great guy to Cowboys fans on twitter. That's how I will remember him lol. Good luck to him!

While I'm not surprised at all about the him being gone. I am very surprised that it's NOW. I expected him to participate in Training Camp. Seems like a kind a random time to do it. Why not last week or 2 weeks ago if they weren't going to have him in camp?

To me, this means one of two things:
1) Vickers knew he was gone, and asked to be let go earlier so he could latch on elsewhere. Perhaps his agent got a call from another team? ( With Dallas' ok to look around, of course)

2) Dallas has some interest in another player and needed the open slot.

Or it could be both.

We'll probably find out why pretty soon.

They can't cut a veteran while he is injured unless they want to pay most of all of his base salary. They were just waiting for him to be able to pass a physical.

If they had any intention to use a FB, they would have more than 1 on the 90 man roster.
