Aikman thinks Romo has become cynical

By dcfanatic, October 23, 2009 9:11 pm

Troy Aikman was on with Mike Francesa from WFAN in NY today and he spoke about the Cowboys match up with the Falcons and about how Tony Romo has now become cynical...

I have to agree 100% with Aikman on Romo. The kid looks like a robot now when he talks to the media. It always seems as if he's working off of a script.

But I get it. He's been dragged thru the mud time and time again as if he's the worst QB in the league.

And that's not even mentioning how his public life has been dissected over and over again.

We just have to hope he can stay strong and fight thru this stretch while helping the Cowboys win some games and hopefully a championship.

Aikman loves Matt Ryan. I think he sees a lot himself in Ryan.

This game is going to be a high scoring affair because I don't trust either one of these defenses. I could see both Romo and Ryan going over the 300 yard mark.

May just come down to the team who has the ball last winds up winning.

That had better be the Cowboys.

Francessa just talks in cliches and generalizations, always has.

Saying its crazy down there right now with the wr talking....is just foolish.

That doesn't make him "cynical". It just means you get the scripted Romo. He's still polite despite the hate.

He has probably just acknowledged privately the truth, that the Cowboys are a bad team that will not win anything.

I believe that Tony changed after that trip to Cabo and that loss to the Giants.

And by the way, I don't think the one had anything to do with the other...

But after that, everyone was on him. The Jessica thing became a huge story. Suddenly people acted like Romo had no talent and had been given everything on a golden platter.

Last season, it seems that he should have been more appreciated than ever. His team was awful without him, and he tried to play through multiple injuries and get his team to the playoffs. It didn't work out, and he took another beating.

Romo was always happy, all the time when he became the QB. But fans wanted him to be stoic and never show any emotion. Then that became a problem. He is damned if he does and damed if he doesn't...

I know I'm more cynical as a fan than I was a few years ago just from listening to the nonstop complaining, whining, booing, and entitlement. Cowboys fans have done that to me. I can only imagine what they have done to Tony Romo...

If he's not a little cynical about things, I'd be surprised.

When you receive as much negative feedback as Romo has been about every aspect of your life from your personal life, to your fashion, to your hobbies, and your overall level of play is trivialized, is it really shocking that you become cynical?

Aikman has no room to talk, that describes him perfectly when he was playing. I could almost predict word for word what he was going to say to any interview question in the post game shows.

Not when you are getting paid 60 million dollars.

Romo is human... And trust me I'm not big fan of Romo but it's time for people to ease up on the guy and just let him play football.

It reminds me of that scene in Bull Durham when Crash Davis told Nuke he cannot grow fungus on his shoes until he wins. If he doesn't win he's just a slob, if he does, he's colorful. Romo can be cynical, weird, goofy, slobby all he wants after he wins a championship. That's what he's supposed to do and therein lies the problem. Not that he's any of the things that people get on him for. It all boils down to winning championships and that's what Romo or any other QB will be known for or not. Sad but it's a fact....

"Crash Davis: Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob. "

Romo just needs to win.
Until then, hes going to have to be mentally tough to deal with people making fun of his hats, what he wears, how he leads or doesnt lead, who he dates, what underwear he puts on, etc. etc.

The main problem as I see it is Romo wants be a Brett Favre and the fans/media/Garret wants him to be an Aikman/Brady. I think if we let Romo be a Favre, Romo will play better and have a SB ring just like a Favre.

:signmast:

Lots of truth in those words. I love this team warts in all, which is what makes me a fan[atic].

Now, some of the fans I could do without...

*Sigh*. Romo just does win. It hasn't done him any good with our fans yet. What makes you think doing it some more is going to make any difference?

Playoff wins. I believe once those accumulate, fans will back off him some.

I blame the Starter equipment Tony wears. Why not? Everything else he does has been blamed or ridiculed. Certainly Starter is ridicule worthy is it not?

He's one plenty of big regular season games and they still think he can't win those. He'll, he's dominated the Giants and there are posters on this board that still think he choked in the last Giants game because it was a big game.

When he wins his first playoff game, the complaint will be that he choked in the divisional round, or in the NFC Championship game. When he wins a Superbowl, the complaint will be that we should have had the first one in '07.

The idea that people will interpret his play rationally isn't supportable yet. I don't see any reason why that would change just because he wins a few playoff games.
