I got a feeling Campbell's Wunderlic score isn't going to wow anyone, lol.

They actually have a studio show at the combine? Borderline obscene.

I'm worried about bust potential on this guy. I certainly wouldn't touch him in the top half of the first round. He's definitely iffy for the bottom half of the first round but I bet someone takes a bite in the middle of the first.

I'd rather take more of a sure thing type guy who has a lower ceiling. We need to hit on our OL pick. We don't need to reach for a LT because Free will be okay there.

When I hear someone has "miles and miles of bad tape" I think he doesn't put out consistent effort. You cannot coach-up laziness. How hard do you think he'll try when he's "made it"? Don't want him.

I would take him.

He is in a great position to have success here in Dallas and if he is a competitor he'll take the criticism and use it to fuel him.

The fact that he is a good pass blocker and not very good run blocker tells me a lot of his issues have to do with effort.

If the Cowboys feel like he is a competitor and will evolve into a real Pro than he is well worth the pick.

This seems like a no brainer pick for the Cowboys considering where we will be picking year in and year out.

Exactly...

I was just watching the video in this thread and noticing how much more lateral speed and explosion he showed in comparison to what I saw from him in games. I was thinking to myself that it's probably because he's working for his paycheck right now. Campbell is looking like one of those freak athlete types that got by purely on athleticism in college and may or may not have the work ethic and desire he'll need to excel in the NFL.

The guy is an absolute beast though.

Somebody will take him high.

I hope it's not us.

Thats true but you cant expect the guy to be a completely mature person at his age.

If he comes to the Cowboys im sure he will buy into the "get better every day" mentaility.

We will demand hard work from him.

I'm sure if he gets his "deluxe apartment in the sky" he will shut it down and revert to how he has played his whole lifetime.

But one bad pick won't kill us. He's a high risk high reward type of player IMO.

the 27th pick of the first round is not great money by nfl standards. his 2nd contract if he performs will be the payday. question for the board, what was the contract of the 27th pick last year and what was the contract that Jason Peters signed. I don't know the numbers, but if we sign this guy at 27, he wont break the point. The bigger loss is the waste of draft pick, which is why we should draft more than one OL to hedge against this beat on him - if we do in fact draft him. By my guess, he will be gone by 27. Some team is going to fall in love with his combine. Happens every year. I expect this year to be no different.

Mayock said he thinks campbell has bust potential.

Said something to the effect of "he has a too much bad tape on the kid to trust him"

For what it's worth.

for what its worth, Mayock in the clip said he is a natural pass blocker. IE great left tackle material. He said he is not a good drive blocker.

Drew Boylhart (thehuddlereport.com) said the exact same thing in his analysis over a month ago. Said, that while Campbell looks the part, and would probably have a great combine, he is a terrible run blocker and does have bust potential. He can't move a defender off the line on a running play, but does an ok job at pass blocking. So, don't get to high on this guy. He may be one of those looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane type of players. The two analyst I most respect both came to the exact same conclusion on this player (ie. He can't run block, he's a better athlete than player, and has bust potential). I doubt that their wrong.

I just think the ability to work hard and give effort is more of a skill rather than something you are born with or not.

Nobody knows for a fact what drives him and who knows where this guy would be picked if he had stayed in school 1 more year.

I just know if im Dallas I would most likely draft him because he is in a position to succeed here.

Everyone bags on Flo but trying to find anyone who is close to his quality is going to be tough to do and this guy could potentially get there.

If you have faith in your position coach and the surrounding influences I think you pick this guy.

Some still have Bruce Campbell low on the board
Posted by Mike Florio on February 27, 2010 3:37 PM ET

Despite the eye-popping 4.78-second 40-yard dash generated by non-donut-eating Bruce Campbell in the donut run and his 34 reps in the 225-pound bench press, Campbell isn't a lock to be taken in the top ten.

He's not even a lock to be taken in round one.

One league source tells us that multiple teams have applied a round-four grade on Campbell, based on evaluation of his college game film. Another league source described Campbell's game film as "terrible."

The dynamic immediately brings to mind Jets linebacker Vernon Gholston. The Jets fell in love with his physique and his non-football feats, and they ignored a set of 2007 game tapes in which he disappeared for long stretches. The thinking by many -- that a player destined to be great in the NFL is always great in the college game -- has been confirmed by Gholston's NFL career to date.

2nd round pick at best now... The combine tends to exaggerate players true ability on the football field.

Dallas Cowboys scout impressed by well-sculpted Maryland offensive lineman
Posted Friday, Feb. 26, 2010

By JAN HUBBARD

jhubbard@star-telegram.com

INDIANAPOLIS -- One Dallas Cowboys scout took a look at Maryland offensive tackle Bruce Campbell at the NFL Scouting Combine and decided he'd seen the second coming of a mythological Greek god.

"He has the best body of anyone I've ever seen," the scout said.

Campbell met the media on Friday and the impression was that if Hercules looked like Campbell, then Hercules was in pretty good shape.

At 6-foot-61/2 and 314 fat-free pounds, Campbell was an imposing figure in a tight-fitting Under Armour shirt with shoulder muscles so large that he looked as if he was wearing shoulder pads. But as impressive a physical specimen as he is, Campbell started only 17 games in college and is viewed as a project.

"I feel like everybody in here, we're all starting freshmen again," Campbell said of the players at the combine. "We're all rookies so one person may not be able to tell how raw another person is."

Several NFL mock drafts have the Cowboys drafting Campbell with the No. 27 pick in the first round, and there is little doubt they need to add offensive line depth. But if he is impressive at the combine, he might be off the board by the time Dallas drafts.

"Wherever I go, I'm going to go there and compete for a position," Campbell said. "I'm going to play football wherever I go. I really don't mind wherever I go -- Cowboys, to the Rams, Commanders, it doesn't bother me. I'm going to play football."

If there is a negative Campbell has besides experience, it's a condition called Arnold-Chiari, which healthline.com describes as "a rare genetic disorder" where "some parts of the brain are formed abnormally."

Campbell said he had surgery in high school to relieve the problem and that doctors at the combine cleared him to play, but it could be the type of condition that might affect his draft status.

"My medical test went well," Campbell said. "I had surgery in high school that a lot of doctors kind of didn't have enough information on so they wanted me to get a lot of MRI testing and things like that. But I feel great."

McNeal's mission

If any player has motivation to do well at the combine, it's SMU running back Shawnbrey McNeal, who became the first back in June Jones' college coaching career to gain more than 1,000 yards.

After gaining 1,188 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns for the Mustangs, McNeal passed on his final year of eligibility because his mother is a diabetic and needs financial help. McNeal said that before last season began, his mother was in the hospital and was 30 minutes away from going into a diabetic coma. That was avoided, but she still is in need of help.

"Being my mom's last son, she's been a big aspect of my life," he said. "Going through the things she's gone through, she kind of made me more understanding and I just feel like when she hurts I hurt. And when she goes through something, I go through something."

At 5-10, 190 pounds, McNeal relies on speed rather than size. He is a decent receiver and caught 31 passes in Jones' offense last season. He is projected as a late-round pick at the earliest, however. He is rated the 28th best running back in the draft by NFLDraftScout.com.

"Teams are all giving me positive feedback," he said. "They all seem to like me. I'm feeling confident. I just have to apply myself and if I get to some team, I know I can help."

Shipley talk

University of Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley has been compared to Wes Welker of the Patriots, and Shipley likes the comparison.

But as far as role models, Shipley does not have to look outside his family. His uncle is former TCU wide receiver Stephen Shipley, who ranks second on the Frogs career list for receiving yards (behind Mike Renfro) and third for receptions (behind Kelly Blackwell and Renfro).

"I grew up watching him and going to his games," Jordan Shipley said. "That's who I liked to watch."

Staff writer Clarence E. Hill contributed to this report.

It is very rare that a lazy player with a poor work ethic gets better once he gets a big paycheck. Being the type to work hard because that is the way you are is not something that is learned; you are or you are not a hard worker. Jason Peters is a perfect example of lack of performance and laziness being rewarded by a stupid GM.

Tell this to the Marty B fans on this board.

We've got to get a LT out of this draft. If Campbell is graded as the best on the board when we make our pick, take him. If not, take another.

Notice the Cowboys scout just said he was impressed with his body. Nothing about his skills.

Now if we take him in the fourth. :)
