Millen, Dukes and Woodson on Roy/Miles

By dcfanatic,

Matt Millen drafted Roy Wiliams so I think it's interesting to hear what he thinks of him as a Dallas Cowboy...

Knowing what routes to use for him. I agree with this statement, but that doesn't mean it's ok.

The guy is being paid a ton of money and he should be running all of the routes in the playbook to a level where he can be successful.

As an offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has to be somewhat frustrated that he's got to fit Roy into the passing offense as opposed to fitting the passing offense around Roy.

The stories surrounding Roy and his #1 WR status aren't going away any time
soon. So be prepared for them.

With all this attention on Roy and Miles, Witten is bound to have a huge game here in the near future.

10 catches 110 yards 2 TD's?

Interesting stuff. I thought Millen actually made a good point when he talked about how the Patriots have guys do things they're good at, and if they're not good at something they don't have them do that. I think we should start using Roy on some of the easier routes to run like the slant and post.

Either Witten or Roy should be able to get that this Sunday. Miles will be doubleteamed over the top. Leaving the middle for them to do work in.

Roy is a good WR. He'll start making plays soon enough. Actually he did in Week 1, so I'm not really worried about Roy E. Williams.

If only we could play against Sabby Piscatelli every week.

Like Millan said, Garrett needs to utilize him better. He is much better at running crossing routes, posts and slants. Garrett continues to try and fit square pegs into round holes.

Me either. Though, if he doesn't start making plays, it doesn't really hurt us much considering how we're moving the ball already. Just think how good we'd be offensively with a healthy Felix not turning over the ball and Bennett and Williams producing.

No one should ever listen to football advice from Millen.

I actually agreed with him. Why have Roy run routes he's not good at? That's just going to lead to picks if Romo tries to feed him the ball.

And what if Romo's not as good at throwing those, or isn't comfortable? It's a give and take.

We throw him that back shoulder fade every week, what could be better than that for him?

This guy gets every excuse in the book. If he is good it will show up on the field.

He was being looked at funny before, after last sunday guys really have to be looking at him funny.

Wade was talking about how Romo has to learn to throw the ball to RW even when it doesn't look like he's open. That's a proposition I cannot agree with. That's exactly what get's Tony in trouble. Roy should use his size to get open by shielding the DB from the ball. Then Tony can throw it to him. That's why the slant is a good pattern for him assuming Tony leads him enough and RW actually catches the ball.

If he's not good at something, why have him do it? That's not an excuse, it's a question. I'm not saying Garrett's stupid, because Roy should be able to run better routes, but the fact is he can't.

The players should be put in a position where they can best succeed.

What is Roy good at?

Conning Jerry Jones out of his money. :(

Roy has almost no chance of success anymore with his limited skill set. He was always a possession guy who got by with some natural ability. Now that he has got his money, there is no more need to work hard or practice. So how can you be a good possession receiver if you run bad routes, have questionable hands and a rageing case of alligator arms.

I think we need to send a message loud and clear to Roy because it is obvious he's not too bright (look at his Wonderlic - 17) - we should inactivate him on Sunday and have someone who is willing to go out there and run the routes properly with conviction. Then again, we'd probably be doing the lazy one a favour by not dressing him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - we won't ever win anything of significance until Jerry brings in a proper football guy to run the personnel side of the franchise. Jerry can keep the GM title, but just bring someone in to run the player acquisition side of things.

RW=possesion receiver. We need to at least have him running the quick slants or fades on third down. If nothing else this will leave Witten with man to man coverage.

Roy is getting paid a ridiculous amount of money. He is really going to have to up his level of play big time to make him worth what we pay him. I'm not sure if that is possible. We have a unique opportunity to dump him in the uncapped offseason and pretend like it never happened.

No, he will never be worth that contract - he should be getting vet min at most with his limited ability.

We definitely need to dump him in the uncapped year - I think Jerry will realize the error of his ways in the offseason. We will go forward with Austin, Crayton and Ogletree. Maybe Hurd suvives another year because there isn't much behind these guys at vet min salary.
