VInny: "what about our request for Erasmus?"

Viking equipment manager: "uh...yeah, hold on"

yo, uncut Erasmus James, we got Vinny ****head on the line

"ok VInny, we'll take a 7th for him"

If the skins would have waited until the waiver period to try and grab him, james would have been gone (since 20 teams have priority over the skins). My guess is palmero, his former college coach, really wanted him and didn't want to risk it, so they offered a 7th to ensure they got this project.

a younger Phillip Daniels, that's all

I wouldn't mind that, daniels is a solid run stopping DE. But in all likely hood, james will never reach that level with his injuries. However, the possibility of him getting better is still there. Its slim, but theres a chance.

This kid has talent and he's shown flashed of it but he's been injury prone thus far and I have to wonder if that will ever change. Could wind up being a good pick up for the Skins though, at a very low cost.

Smart move if you ask me. Low risk high reward type of potential. Fills a team need. Pretty good all the way around. It DOES speak volumes, though, the fact that the Vikes are willing to give up on a 1st round pick so easily. As a Boys fan, I hope the guy flops and the Vikes were right all along. Can't blame the Skins for giving it a go, though. Snyder may have made his first sensible personnel move since he bought the team.

If you get a younger Phillip Daniels for a 7th then this will be an outstanding trade for the Skins.

Tell me, did the Vikes have to talk you guys out of sending a second rounder?

That was pretty good. Had to re-read the original quote again and it all came together. Must need more coffee this morning.

I wonder if this was some type of move by the Commanders to avoid James getting claimed by a team higher on the waiver list?

I've never heard of a team 'undoing' a cut before, so it sounds a bit suspicious to me...
sorry, i have to ask. why the hell you want matt jones in dallas? because he runs a 4.3?

Not strictly based on that.

But I see a player with value that could be gotten on the cheap.

Much like Pacman was.

Different reasons for each player's lower value, but I think he's a talented player who could be had for a late round draft pick.

And I think a guy with his measurables would do well with the single coverage he would receive playing with Owens and Witten.

That and I don't want to go through another season counting on Terry Glenn.

I also have faith that he could improve under a great receivers coach like Ray Sherman.

And I also think that Jason Garrett could do some creative things with him.

Still seats available on the bandwagon!

Don't the Skins have to pick up his contract since they traded for him? He still has a contract in place for 2008 and 2009... $695K and $1M, respectively. From what I read, Minnesota was not expecting him to be able to contribute much, if at all, in 2008. SO, if he does stay on the Skins roster, they could be paying him to ride pine in 2008, only to face a contract negotiation in 2009.

That isn't very much to pay for someone who has that talent. And if he sucks, then he's cut -- I don't think any of that is guaranteed, but I am not sure.

He was cut b/c he failed a physical in Minnesota. My thoughts are he was cut b/c he was hurt two years in a row -- not b/c he sucked. He had a decent rookie year. So if he can stay healthy -- I think he can contribute. If not, no loss since it's a conditional pick.

gotta admit not a bad move by snyder. sure james has been a bust but its high reward lord risk move where maybe james is one of those players that take a couple of years to harness their talent. hope it doesnt work out though lol!

Looks like Danny Boy might have figured out that you dont have to fork over first rounders for project players and busts.

Nah, a seven looks like a one when upside down. He was just on the wrong side of the table when he agreed.

Washington will have to pick up his rookie contract. However, I suppose he could renegotiate, much like Pacman did with us.

I haven't heard anything up to this point about them renegotiating though.

yeah but he gave up a draft pick for a cut player

He would have never cleared waivers to the Skins; hence the trade.

Apparently his base salary is $1 million this year, and it's the final year of his rookie contract. The Vikes pay the rest of his signing bonus. I'm not sure if all of that $1 million counts against the cap (I'm pretty sure it does), but we have enough space to handle it. Plus we could cut him at any time and wipe his salary off the books.

EDITED: Oops, the washington post had it wrong. He has two years left on his contract. $695,000 this year, and $1 million next year.

Washington also didn't pick up any guaranteed money, those stay with Minny when they are accelerated against the cap. We could cut him and nothing would happen. Also, I'm pretty sure James got stuck in a numbers crunch in Minny, they have arguably the most talented DL in the NFL, so why waste a roster spot on somebody who can be talented but you also expect to be another year in the works?
