Howdy all,

I am a diehard Vikings fan. I often like to go to the Vikings opposition's message board to discuss the upcoming game with their fans.
I dont do this to be a troll or talk smack, I find that I have more insight to this opposition this way. I enjoy the game more having a stronger connection to the opponent and the knowing the story lines they have.

I think this game will be a close one. The Cowboys are playing unbelivable right now. The Vikings looked strong most of the season, but looked like a CFL team against the Cards, Panthers and for the 1st half of the Bears game.

The game will only be close if the Vikings show up to play otherwise Dallas will roll.

The Vikings have had trouble covering TE's all year and Witten is as good as they come. The key for the Vikings on defense is to create pressure up front to rush passes so the secondary and rookie MLB wont get torn apart in coverage.

Offensively the Vikes need to find a way to slow the pass rush of Ware. Peppers made Mckinnie look foolish and really disrupted the rhythm of the O. Peterson also needs to get back on track hasnt had 100 yds (due to horrendous blocking mainly) in awhile and Peterson needs to continue his strong bitz pickups (which were awful last year)

My pick is

Vikings 31
Cowboys 28

Vikes dude -

Your biggest problem - Cowboys tend to own Favre. I think we are in his head. If the Cowboys get to him, I think this ends badly for the Vikings.

Great running back there. No shame for either team winning or losing, both have had real nice seasons. That said, I hope we hang half a hundred on you.

Witten will own the Vikings linebackers.

Winfield will get roasted by Miles

Felix will roast everyone.

Other than that, you guys have a shot

The secondary has been suspect most of the year. The safeties have played horrible in particular ( Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson) Tyrell Johnson has played so bad in particuliar that he has started to split time with this last years 7th rd draft pick Jamarca Sanford (who is really solid and a better option).

Winfield usually a stud for us but, since he hurt his foot vs Bal earleir in the year he has been awful clearly not healed yet. They moved him from starting Corner to the nickel position.

Benny Sapp has replaced him there and has played fairly solid, but not top material

Cedric Griffin (Texas product) has played pretty darn solid gets beat every now and then but over all good coverage not a strong tackler.

My biggest worry is when we played AZ we lost the heart and soul of our Defense MLB EJ Henderson. It is particuliarly worrisome because we play Tampa 2 and the MLB is often responsible for covering the TE in man coverage and then the deep middle in most zones. The guy replacing him is Jasper Brinkley a solid run stuffer but not the strongest covering the pass. The Vikes take him out for obvious pass situations and replace him with Ben Leber which is all fine and dandy except when teams pass on running downs. resulting in big days for the TE's

I see Witten having a huge day regardless of the outcome of the game

I think we should purposely fumble the ball and let Pat Williams (or was it Kevin Williams) run it all the way back (to the 10 or so) just so he is gassed and out the rest of the game.

I'm looking forward to this game it's a great match up and i think the winner is going to the SB.
For most of the season the Vikings looked like the most complete team in the NFC but right now we look better, you've had an extra week to rest though

I can't wait for Sunday

So you post about all of the Vikings' weaknesses, and then predict a victory? On what basis?

I predict a real good game however I think Dallas defense is playing out of this world... The offense is doing enough to keep teams off balance which is scary.

31-21 Dallas.

thanks for the response. I feel your pain regarding bad safety play. Roy Williams was pretty bad for us his last few years imo until we replaced him with Sensabaugh who's been solid but nothing spectacular.

have you heard anything regarding if Winfield is healed enough and will start against us on Sunday?

I was telling a friend of mine how that Henderson injury was a huge blow to you guys because he's a big part of your defense and imo is a very underrated player.

The offensive weapons of Rice, Harvin, Berrian, and Shiancoe

Favre @ QB playing working to end his career on a SB victory

The dynamic running duo of Peterson and Taylor toting the rock and in the screen game.

Our D line is incredibly strong at all 4 positions Greenway and Leber are strong LB's who can run stuff and pass cover. Brinkley can stuff the run but not cover pass

I think you guys wont have much success running the ball against our D, but will score a ton passing

We will both score points and it will be a close game, but I will always pick my team in the clutch

Also I think the Cowboys will get off to a slow start because of how much success they have had recently. Its a thin line between confident and over confident. The Cowboys seem to be flirting with that. Romo's synchronized first dow with the ref... players dancing around on the sideline acting like they won the superbowl not the wildcard

Those are some of the reasons I think the Vikes will win....but that is coming from my Vikings Bias

Practise wasnt open to the media today and they have tomorrow off so the Vikings have been really quiet how Winfield is.

I doubt he healed much more in the week off. He will be ok enough to play in the nickel package maybe use him on some blitzes keep him out of the man coverages with no safety help

Don't be fooled by the celebrating at the end of the game. Many, many sources from the national and local media stated that the team was calm and focused on Minnesota by the time they were at their lockers. Besides, it was a game that ended a 13 year drought. A little celebrating was in order.

I actually see the Cowboys coming in loose and relaxed. IMO, they are playing with the house's money right now. No one expected them to get this far. It is all gravy at this point.

I love the matchup of d-line vs. the Min O-line. Favre has bad memories of playing against Dallas. He got knocked out of the game as a Packer back in 2007 after going 5 of 14. This d-line and defense as a whole is way better than the 2007 unit.

IMO, it will be a close game, but I will take Romo over Favre and the Dallas defense over the Vikings defense in this game. The Cowboys offense will present lots of matchup nightmares for the Vikings defense.

These are two evenly-matched teams. I think Dallas has most of the matchup advantages simply because we're healthier and, let's face it, playing a lot better than MIN is right now.

Weigh that against their home field advantage (which is huge) and the fact that they've had an extra week to prepare--mostly for the Cowboys--which is an even bigger advantage. It's hard to say who's going to win this game.

This game really boils down to two guys. Romo and Favre. Whichever one plays better his team will probably win. If the Cowboys want to win we must conjure "Bad Favre" by containing Peterson with a disciplined front 7 and forcing him to make some of his trademark bad throws/decisions.

you would be overly excited as well if you finally squashed the havent won a playoff game in 13 years nonsense. the team is playing with passion, excitement, energy, and really, they are just having fun.

as far as starting slow, they did it last week against the Eagles. Because of stupid penalties, they blew opportunities to score on their first two possessions. They still hung 34 on the Eagles, scoring on 5 consecutive 2nd quarter possessions.

it will be a tough game. minnesota is definitely tough at home. you dont go undefeated at home by being a pushover.

still, i like Dallas' chances. They need to apply lots of pressure to Favre. Id like to send Scandrick on a Nate Jones type blitz. They need to definitely keep Rice and Harvin in front of them. Shaincoe has become Favre's Witten. Then there is the dynamic duo at RB....Peterson and Taylor. Taylor is super dangerous as a receiving threat. Dallas has to be weary of screens and dump offs when he is in the game. Peterson is just a bull.....but one thing he does do is share the ball with the opponent. Dallas needs to be very grabby when it comes to AD.

As far as our offense goes......just keep Allen entertained all game long. double and triple team him. he is the focal point of that defense. if they can keep him off Romo, Dallas should have a fruitful day at the office.

You are very nice and knowledgable about your team. I appreciate your insight. It will be a good game no doubt. It will probably come down to getting pressure on favre and whether you guys can stop witten.

I feel a little more confident now that you tell me about your MLB issues. Witten should do well.

This will be the true test of our secondary though. Good luck to your team sir.

So exactly how did you perceive Favre and Jared Allen acting like a pair of spastic imbeciles after beating a Giants team that had mailed it in?
