Schramm gained the backing of CBS as the network's darling at that point. I know I lived outside of the Southwest at the time and never had much of an issue catching a Cowboys game after the 1979 season. And I believe he latched onto the moniker out of desire for exposure. We might have won two Super Bowls. But we also had lost three in the previous decade. Wouldn't you grasp at that to compete for your share of the pie after the Steelers had four titles? He was laying claim to the NFC at a time when no one else could. It was not arrogant, just smart business sense.
Bingo. On top of that it was before revenue sharing and Schramm would do anything to provide his employer as much profit as he could. That is one reason why he is top notch.

Coincidentally it seems the more the Boys win ..... the crankier he gets.

And the more we lose, the less you're around. Quite the dilemma for me. Actually, I just have the burden of knowing that the team isn't perfect and sometimes oversteps the bounds of propriety. Since you're a fanatic and not a fan, this concept is no doubt foreign to you. Go take a "believe" pill and lie down.

We had like 14 consecutive years of winning seasons by 1979. We were led by Capt. America at QB, an enigmatic head coach, we played in a unique stadium, and our cheerleaders were popular enough to merit their own made-for-TV movie. As such, CBS needed no extra incentive to promote or profile our games. Steelers? The vast majority of their games were on NBC at the time, so we rarely butted heads.

This thread is proof that the more things change, the more they stay the same :laugh2: .

Oh my gosh. I just discovered that the Bears called themselves "Monsters of the Midway." How in the world can that be acceptable? We are talking monsters here people. Not the kind that gobble cookies either. Think "Where the Wild Things Are." Do we allow them to mock children's nightmares? We have to put a stop to this arrogance. How dare they think Monsters are acceptable. Besides they are nowhere near Midway. That's way out in the Pacific Ocean and Chicago is nowhere near the Pacific. They are screwing up geography with that nickname for the sake of profit.

Make it stop.

Pretty simple really Tex was a master of promoting and took a label that was attached to the Cowboys and ran with it. Landry was not crazy about being called America’s Team but Tex saw the overall picture of what it would bring to the Cowboys. Jerry in my view picked up where Tex left off as a great promoter of the Dallas Cowboys and not many are as good as Jerry when it comes to promoting his team.

It's only a problem if you allow your opposition to use a compliment as pejorative, which is really just a transparent reach as an insult. Anything can be made to sound derogatory, that doesn't mean it is. No need to get self conscious over it, as player or fan.
