The Vikings run defense is no more stout then ours.

Regular season the Vikings allowed 87.1 ypg rushing. #2 in the NFL.

We allowed 90.5 ypg rushing. #4 in the NFL.

Did we really? Wow I hadn't even been aware that.

Kudos to the defense there.

Look at the stats, their average per game rushing yards allowed is similar to ours, 87.1 while we give up 90.5. 3 yards doesn't make much of a difference in a game. They also haven't faced a trio of running backs like ours. Stewart was probably the best RB they faced, and he put up 109 yards against them.

I'm more concerned with what the total yardage they gave up, yards per play, and yards per passing attempt to be honest.

One good thing is EJ Henderson is injured, and that is really going to affect their defense. I think we win, but don't be surprised if we only put up around 24 points to pull it out. And when I say don't be surprised if we win, I mean don't be surprised if we win by at least 7 points.

Oops, I was a little late on that! How about this stat: they have given up 52 pass plays of 20+ yards, 8th highest total in the league. The only teams that have given up more... Browns, Titans, Dolphins, Raiders, Rams, Falcons, Lions... none of whom are in the playoffs.

At least one of the Williams boys was out for those last games, though, weren't they? I thought maybe each one even took a game off, even if not at the same time.

They are really that good, though. Pat is just a huge blob and Kevin is a true stud, a multiple time All-Pro and legitimate bad ***.

If it's me, I'm running outside a lot, preferably at Allen. But mainly I suspect this is a game to throw it a lot. I wonder how healed or bad Winfield's foot is at this point. Wade drafted him at Buffalo, though... That was a long time ago, but maybe he knows a little something on him.

Yeah their secondary doesnt scare me one bit. Romo will feast on that defense. They also have a MAJOR problem stopping tight ends. Witten is one of the best in the biz, he will have a huge game as well!

Cowboys-31
Vikes-17

They lost EJ Henderson to a season ending injury, their stud MLB a while back and that hurt their D big time.

I agree glory. I think Romo is going to have a big time game and take us to an NFC Championship game on the following weekend.

From the Vikings board:

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Wednesday that Antoine Winfield (foot) will play left corner and some slot corner in the Divisional Round.

Winfield, who aggravated his cracked foot in Week 14, was burned repeatedly down the stretch. Childress didn't elaborate on Winfield's role vs. Dallas, or say if he'll start. Benny Sapp is likely to be picked on as long as he's in.

Taking a look at some of the stats that opposing QBs have put up against the Vikings it is clear that the way to attack their defense is through the air. Now I am not suggesting we abandon the run game, but our offensive game plan should be concentrated around the passing game.

Quinn 21-35 for 205 1/1 WOW lol

Rodgers 26-37 for 384 2/1

Flacco 28-43 for 385 2/0 WOW

Rodgers 26/41 for 287 3/0

Stafford 29/51 for 224 1/0 pretty darn good

Hasselbeck 19/26 for 231 0/1

Warner 22/32 for 285 3/0

Moore 21/33 for 299 3/0 WOW

Cutler 20/35 for 273 4/1

Some of these QBs are average at best and had well above average games by their standards. The good and real good qbs torched the queens secondary. I had absolutely no idea that the Vikings defense was this susceptible to the passing game. Tony Romo is GOING to have a FIELD DAY on Sunday. If Romo puts up numbers anywhere close to some of these guys, the Vikings will have no chance.

Good info.
But I do believe that Rodgers, Flacco, Warner and Hasselbeck are WAY above average. I also think that Stafford is the real deal.

Again, good info nonetheless. Romo should do well.

That is no excuse to act like they shut down the run. Just be consistent with it. Carolina had an easy time of it. The Bears were still able to get around 100 yards against them. They have carried over an inflated reputation for stopping the run that has followed them for several years now. That is still no reason to assume they cannot be run on.
I'm not saying they'll shut us down. It's just that, if there's one strength of their defense, I'd say it's against the run. That and rushing the passer.

Let's just say I'm not expecting our backs to get 190 yards on the ground like they did against the Egirls.

If we win this I'm 99% sure we go to the Superbowl.

I will wait until the outcome of the Cards/Saints game before I think that.

Among the worst pass defense stats for the Vikings:

25th in completion percentage allowed...

Tied 26th in interceptions...

27th in quarterback rating...

23rd in TD passes allowed...

25th in completions of 20 yards or more allowed...

19th in passing yards per game allowed...

The only positive pass defense stat they can boast of is first in the NFL in sacks...

Yeah, it looks like the Boys ought to be able to move the ball via the pass against them...

You know the more I think about this, these guys will be putting all th ier concentration on stopping the pass because they believe thats where we will shredd them. I think they may slip up and we get some big runs on the with FJ.

Very cool sig, btw.

Don't encourage him. Seriously, don't.

haha Ah oh! Well, I have to give the man props for accurately predicting that the Cards would beat GB.

I'm sorry! It'll never happen again.:

:p:

Another little stat I found interesting.

Compare each team's last four games:

Minnesota - 7 sacks
Dallas - 15 sacks and 2 or 3 intentional grounding penalties

The thing about Vikings D is they play a Cover-2 scheme and really dont stray away from that too much. Additionally, their best secondary player, Winfield, has been hampered by a broken foot, so that also is limiting what they can do schematically. So basically, if we can block their front 4 long enough and be aware of the occasional LB/S blitz, there should be some open lanes for Romo and the WR/TEs to exploit.

It obviously would be nice to have some success running the ball forcing their LBs and Ss to creep up a little in run support and not allowing them to sit comfortably back in pass coverage.
