the Sheriff w/ the sunglasses in "Cool Hand Luke" I was pissed when he killed Luke, like really pissed, I hated him throughout that entire movie, the Warden was *** up too

and Gary Oldman's terrorist in Air Force One, I got really pissed when he was kicking the **** out of a defenseless Harrison Ford, he needed to be done

The talk about the Joker in the Dark Knight got me to thinking about the most effective villains in movies ... the characters that were purely awful and needed to be exterminated.

I'm not talking about misunderstood characters who may have had a good side, but effective villains who stirred all sorts of stuff inside of you. You wanted them dead.

A few come to mind:

-- The British officer in The Patriot who was Mel Gibson's and Heath Ledger's nemesis.

-- Two in the Green Mile: Percy Wetmore and Wild Bill.

-- Bruce Dern's character in John Wayne's film, The Cowboys.

-- Blue Duck in Lonesome Dove.

I'm sure there are many more.

why? that dude was frickin' hilarious

This is a really good thread.

There was a time in my life when this woman really creeped me out.

Her flying monkeys were pretty bad too.

The one that comes to mind first is from a genre of movies I don't watch that often.

Jigsaw from Saw (I have only seen the first one)

Good list. Great call on the self-righteous warden in Shawshank. That's one of Brainpaint's favorite characters. ;)

Jenny Gump on there cracked me up. :laugh2:

Love that scene where he is mad about Andy escaping and is asking everyone where he is.

Nothing left but some damn rocks on the windowsill. And that cupcake on the wall! Let's ask her, maybe she knows.

What say you there, fuzzy-britches? Feel like talking?

That makes me roll every time.

I tell you someone who does a good job playing a bad guy. Gary Oldman.

Playing the pimp in True Romance, the warden in Murder in the first and the crazy cop in the Professional.

I loved the last words the future Queen said to Longshanks. Great movie. Another favorite scene is in the tent with the "advisor" when he goes off in Latin, then switches to French.

I was looking forward to seeing Tom Berenger's character get fragged during the entire movie. When I went to Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton, we had to watch Platoon and count how many times they yelled "Corpsman", "Medic", or "Doc". It was well over 100 times.

After Seeing Sling Blade recently, Dwight Yoakam's character comes to mind.

Dwight plays a good b_s_tard, he was good in Panic Room also.

I think all the good villians have been named...
