With Sean down, that leaves either Holloman or rookie Hitchens. Wouldn't hurt to bring in a vet to at least soak up some playing time as well as mentor the kids. I think either McIntosh or Vilma. What say you? Not that I believe it will make us win more games. Just seems like a needed evil with only rooks at play.

I suggested this a while back and all I got were racist comments about him being a thug and a crybaby.

I can see the reserve to not want him. Yet, you can't say it's an awful idea. Holloman and Hitchens (23 and 21) certainly could use someone to dry off mommas spit from the back of their ears.

There's probably a legit reason he can't play, but I haven't heard him even working out for a team.

I read somewhere that he has bad knees, before that i like the idea of signing him.

Nah, we will stick with a small vet like Sims who knows the system and has worked under Marinelli in the past. Then we his getting smashed, they will bench him and use the younger players.

I'm more concerned about having someone with a good vet presence to mentor. Sims wouldn't be bad either. Minus the fact he's too slow for much coverage.

He's been recovering from and injury. I know he missed a season with surgery. Played a game or two and was put back on IR. I think they may have brought him back too soon. Wouldn't hurt to bring him in for a work out and at least see if he can compete.

I sick of the "let's get the former pro bowl vet" and things will be fine theory. Lee getting injured sucks but Hollman shows promise at Mike with only a week at the spot. Give him and entire camp to see what he can do. This is the only way to fix or team. The old flashy name is what hurts us. We drafted Holloman and he did a good job in little time , let him develop

The Dallas Cowboys are looking at another tough start to this upcoming season as they may be without star linebacker Sean Lee for even more time following his latest injury at Cowboys OTAs. Lee may be lost for the season and if not the season, a large portion of it with a knee injury and the Cowboys are bracing for the worst.

Adam Schefter doesn’t have an update on Lee’s status just yet but he does have some input on who they might target should Lee be lost as is expected. According to Schefter, former New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is healthy and ready to play, which means he could be an option for the Cowboys in the immediate future.

Of course, this is all assuming that the Cowboys lose Lee which is an absolute worst case scenario for them. Vilma isn’t a bad pick up though and may have even been an alright veteran signing even if Lee hadn’t suffered this knee injury.

Vilma was a leader with the Saints and knows what a defense needs to get fired up. He may have lost a step with age, but he’ll likely be walking more steps on two legs than Sean Lee will this season which by default makes him a better option. It’s just a perk that he happens to be one of the better defensive veterans floating around in free agency still.

Again, it's more about depth and having a vocal vet than stealing the kids thunder. You can't lose a guy like that and NOT go out and try to at least plug a veteran or good depth player. I hope the young guys step up and play big. Wouldn't it be better to give them some support in the process?

Anybody know much about James Anderson? He played with Chicago last year on a 1 year deal and led the team in tackles with 129.5, along with recording 42 assisted tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss.

Signing a vet I'd agree with because our linebackers are YOUNG. But signing the biggest name vet is not the answer if we bring in Vilma how would hollowman take the field if he's getting paid about 3-5 million on a one year deal

I wouldn't call him the biggest name if he's still unsigned. He's the biggest left. I'd be surprised if anyone would pay him that much money without most of it being performance incentives. He only earned 1.2 the last year he played. I see where you're coming from though. However, let's not forget, those in free agency right now no matter what their name sake carries, are there because they're not 26 years old, injury free and playing in their prime. He'd be a nice addition if he's healthy enough. No sense in not at least entertaining the idea.

The only time you pay for the vet is if you think you can contend. If not, he is a progress stopper. Let the rooks develop. With him on the field, they are doing the equivalent of what you and I do every Sunday: spectating. You can only learn so much from that.
