I just heard on NFL radio that Wade was denied speaking to 2 coaches on the Charger staff about DC position for the Cowboys.

i thought teams don't have to ask for permission they just do out of respect?

No because we've denied Sparano from several teams and Garrett was denied to talk to several teams about their coordinator job except for us.

It happens all the time.

If I owned the Chargers, I wouldn't let anybody talk to the janitor. Assistant coaches are practically running for the hills out there. They have to be in full blown panic mode. As for our situation, like WP said in his news conference, they are more good coaches than coaching jobs. He just has to decide which ones he wants.

The only time you can not be denied permission is if you are asking them to interview for HC

Any assistant position can be denied

Lateral moves can be denied, I'm pretty sure. The Chargers coaching staff has already been pillaged.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was hired Thursday as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Previously, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron had been hired as the Miami Dolphins' head coach, tight ends coach Rob Chudzinski had landed the offensive coordinator job in Cleveland and linebackers coach Greg Manusky had become the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.

You can't blame the Chargers honestly .. they lost their OC, DC and like one or two other coaches already. All of that happening without a head coaching change is extremely hard on a team.

Exactly. You can interview for a promotion. But the NFL makes sure that it is a true promotion. Like giving a DB coach the title of asst D-Coord because you want him for the same job on your team.

Wade is right anyways, a lot of good coaches out there. You just need the right mix.

Or, unfortunetly, in your team's case...alot of money!

;)

I feel bad for the Chargers. All that talent/coaching staff, now decimated because they have one of the All Time Great Folds for a head coach.

Again, as BigDFan5 has already said, the only promotion that matters is HEAD COACH.

I can't imagine Wade or anyone in the Cowboy organization is surprised by this.

Agreed.

I could be wrong but I thought I read a blurb last week that the front office for the Chargers said they would not let any of their coaches get away since they lost so many already.

If this is true, it looks like Bowles is not going to be the guy. That doesn't suprise me. Jones has to let Phillips hire his own defensive guys since he already took care of the offensive side before he hired him.

Dang. I had my hopes on Wayne Nunally as our DC since Manusky went to San Fran.

He wasn't one of them.

They denied us permission to speak to asst. LB coach John Pagano (the person who they have pegged for the coordinator job) and secondary coach Brian Stewart.

Interesting.

If we are asking after secondary coaches then it is clear that Bowles is our new DC and we are just looking for position guys.

It's been clear Bowles is the man for a long time.

It also adds fuel to the strange method Jones had however. That means any new coach would have to accept an offensive coordinator (presumeably Garrett), an assistant head coach/offensive line (Sparano) and Bowles in some capacity.
