Wade or Garrett?

I hope Jerry can keep them together for 2 more years, pay em Jerra. It is in the best intrest of the team, and it seems like a viable solution ,they are paid well respectively...

I would hope that as well. I do believe that if you have a good HC in place you do what you can to keep him even if he loses assistant coaches along the way.

This is the key.

Washington is done. Lovie is staying. It looks like Raheem Morris will have another year.

That leaves Buffalo for sure, and possibly Oakland and Cleveland.

I don't see Garrett going to any of those three places.

But he won't hang around forever. If Dallas/Wade do well in the playoffs, Wade would get that extra year. If Jerry wants to keep Garrett, he needs to have a plan in place to promote him in 2011.

The question is, what is the impact to losing Wade on defense versus losing Garrett on offense...

I think everyone know I'm a huge JG fan. So, um, yea. Him.

Wade all day, and twice on sunday. Romo doesnt need this system to thrive in. Jason Garrett still calls stupid plays. Hes gotten better over the past few weeks (yes weeks) but, give me this D this offense with some better play calling.

How again has Garrett been "great"? We're 14th in the league in scoring.

Now getting Romo to finally understand he can't turn the ball over gets someone some credit, I will admit that. Or was that just maturity on Tony's part?

It's funny, if we had the 2nd ranked offense in the league and the 14th ranked defense, no one would be asking this question.

We do have the 2nd ranked offense, in total yards. The total yards set a franchise record and lets face it, this franchse's offenses have been pretty prolific for several decades now.

Thats what it looks like, that Garrett will be staying by default in all liklihood. And thats a good thing, he's got a great career ahead of him.

Well there's also the short term and long term to think about. Wade's not going to be here forever and Garret is 20 years younger.

I will say this - neither unit, offense or defense looked very good until some key players emerged later in the season. Notably Spencer, Austin, Jenkins and healthy Felix. Doug Free turned out to be a godsend as well, but more in more of a disaster averted kind of way.

So maybe we just need to keep the scouts.... ;)

Brought this up in another thread, but thought I would give it its own.

If Wade has some success this post-season and Jerry picks up his option for next year, or even extends him for a few years, we may have a chance at losing Garrett.

The offense has been great this year, and Garrett himself has improved markedly IMO down the stretch. He could be a hot candidate again this offseason for a HC job, and I don't think he turns down any more offers.

So the question, particularly for those who want Wade to stay or like Garrett, is another year of Wade (or possibly 2-3) worth losing Garrett for, and an offensive system Romo has finally thrived in?

We know at Wade's age this probably isn't too long term a gig for him, whereas if Jason pans out he could be here much longer.

I'd rather the Cowboys keep Wade. Once learned, his defense will allow most any competent offensive coordinator to flourish.

Wade is a better DC than JG is an OC. You keep Wade.

That should be obvious to everyone. I think Garrett is improving as an OC, but I think he needs at least a few more seasons in that capacity before taking over as Head coach.

Surely nobody would argue that yards are more important than points.

Would they?

You dont see many teams score alot of points if they cant move the ball. Whats costing us more tds/points are the little things. Fumbling in the redzone. Dropped passes. Penalties on first down. Sacks. Missed field goals. Those are things that are not the result of "bad play calling" or having a "poor offensive coordinator"

The offense is doing a good job of hogging the ball too, and that helps the team's defense alot.

I never said he was a "poor offensive coordinator".

And I've still never seen yards on the scoreboard.

you know Herring has been there all three years

theres other guys who can run a 3-4 D also

Kieth Butler - Steelers - LB coach
Ron Aiken - Crads - D line
Thomas "Pepper" Johnson
Byran Cox

So was Wade a bad defensive coach last yr then? We ranked 20th in points allowed but in the top-10 in yards allowed and led the league in sacks.

What about 2007? We ranked 13th in scoring defense but 9th in yards allowed and 3rd in sacks.

is the desire to be a head coach really worth it when you have head coach money as an assistant? JG will be back... Wade too. This is a rather unique situation and I dont think Dallas would let one go over the other since they complement each other.

I don't know what this has to do with the thread or the discussion, because once again, I never said Garrett was "bad". But yeah, I'd say 20th in scoring stinks. That's obvious.

But then, that coordinator got fired for it, too.

If we were 13th in 2007, I guess we were pretty darn good. Since 14th is so good and all. ;)

Look, once and for all, I don't hate Garrett. I'm just unconvinced. People love him and I don't understand why. The evidence I see with my own eyes isn't outstanding -- except for Romo reducing his turnovers, which is big.

Very true.

I'd goe as far as saying that Wade would have no shot at staying if the ranks were reversed.

I think many are hoping a little too much with Garrett.
