Reality and I were just on the phone and I was telling him about the bogus punishment for Belicheck and the Patriots. He asked a great question that I would like to know the answer to.

When Wade Phillips said putting a radio in the defensive huddle was a solution it was voted down by only 1 or 2 votes from what I understand.

How did Bob Kraft vote on this idea? If he voted no, we all damn well know why.

That would be interesting to know wouldn't it. The proposal only failed by 2 votes.

Mort said today on GAC that the Pats did vote against it.

He also said it was interesting that most (maybe he said all) of the teams who voted against it had defensive-oriented head coaches.

5 bucks says this off season this measure passes easily.

Kraft's vote should not be counted.

I'd be jsut a interested in how we voted. Judging by Wade's tone i'd say we vote for the rule.

The crowds may be so loud that it wont even matter because of miscommunication.

well i havent found anything yet absolutely confirming the pats voted against it but i did read an article from seattle that said the seahawks were one
on the teams who voted against it.
also read that the saints voted for it.
22-10 vote count so maybe we can piece together who voted which way.

Who would have the radio in their helmet? Due to substitutions, which defensive player would be in the game every play to make the call?

Most defensive players get a break of a least one play a game and some don't even play in every package.

It's ok for the QB b/c he's in on every offensive play but who would wear it on D?

The defensive captain? Guys like Urlacher rarely miss a play.

Anyone else think Wade is one of the guys who already believed the Pats were cheaters. He never said anything about it, but that's the impression I got anyway.

Wade went so far as to stand up and address the need for helmet radios before it went to vote. He stressed that it would prevent situations such as the one that has now come up.

This whole episode makes me long for the days when the players called the plays. One of the few things that Paul Brown and Tom Landry ushered in that I didn't like was having the coaches call the plays.

I think the cheaters are the ones from the Parcells coaching tree. Mangini probably knew about what goes on and fingered Belicheat. But if you think back, Parcells threw several people out of trainging camp because he suspected they were spies from other teams.

Why do you think the punishment was bugus? I thought it was extremely tough, and I was happy to see it. It went beyond what most people were expecting.

It lacked any suspension of Belichek. Even 1 or 2 games would have made the punishment spot on in my opinion. The fines were perfect as were the loss of draft picks. I never imagined they would possibly lose a 1st rounder. That part impressed me, but still a suspension was deserving. I would not say bogus, but a little lacking.

Suspending Belichek from a game would be a joke, imo, like kicking a baseball manager out of the game...everyone still knows who calls the shots. Do you really think Bellichek not being on the sideline of a game would make any difference? I seriously doubt it...for one thing, all the work for the game would already be done and the plan in place; for another thing, I'm sure he'd have some sort of communication going on.

I love the fact that he just lost 1/2 million dollars out of his own pocket. We all know the Pats are going to the playoffs, so no first round draft pick this year...that's really really huge. No one really expected it to be a #1.

I'm thrilled with the penalty, and I'm actually happy that he doesn't get to hide away from the camera this weekend...he's going to be there on the sideline, having his mug shown to viewers all over the world while the announcers talk about his cheating...he's going to have to address the questions before the game and after the game in the locker room.

For a guy like him (did you see him trying to refuse to discuss it on tv this week), this is going to be much harder on him than being suspended and being able to hide out of sight till it blows over a little. I think Goddell was either brilliant to avoid the suspension or just lucked into a more appropriate punishment. Hoodie can't hide from it....he's going to be out there in the middle of it all week long.

Very appropriate, imo.

Goodell said Wade Wilson was given a 5 game suspension and Rodney Harrison a 4 game suspension because the NFL held its coaches to a higher standard.

I ask you, what is more of a blow to the integrity of the game, a man wanted to improve the quality of his life, or outirght cheating in open violation of the league rules?

So Wade gets 5 games for looking for a way to cure impotency, but Belicheck just gets fined? They have 2 first round picks, a 2nd, and two 3rds. Taking one of those picks away is hardly a blow at all. The fine is window dressing, nothing more.

He deserved a suspension, and I don't care if he could still pull the strings from afar. He deserved a suspension. This has no teeth to it at all. It was a mere slap on the wrist. I promise you he's happy. He expected worse.
