Goodell said Wade Wilson was given a 5 game suspension and Rodney Harrison a 4 game suspension because the NFL held its coaches to a higher standard.

I ask you, what is more of a blow to the integrity of the game, a man wanted to improve the quality of his life, or outirght cheating in open violation of the league rules?

So Wade gets 5 games for looking for a way to cure impotency, but Belicheck just gets fined? They have 2 first round picks, a 2nd, and two 3rds. Taking one of those picks away is hardly a blow at all. The fine is window dressing, nothing more.

He deserved a suspension, and I don't care if he could still pull the strings from afar. He deserved a suspension. This has no teeth to it at all. It was a mere slap on the wrist. I promise you he's happy. He expected worse.

I agree. This is one instances where I disagree with the punishment being handed down. It seems very light weight.

Who would have the radio in their helmet? Due to substitutions, which defensive player would be in the game every play to make the call?

Most defensive players get a break of a least one play a game and some don't even play in every package.

It's ok for the QB b/c he's in on every offensive play but who would wear it on D?
Ding, ding, we have a winner. This is exactly why it didn't pass. You'd almost have to have more than one player on defense with a speaker in their helmet. They couldn't figure this out.

Until they strip one of their Super Bowls wins and we can say we're the only team to win 3 out of 4 then the punishment will never be enough. ;) But you knew that already.

So you mic up a safety, they are usually on the field at all times.

What would be the cut off time on signals to the defense? Offensive transmission shuts off at 15 seconds.

USUALLY. That's the problem and you don't want to just mic anyone, what if your safety goes out, you want your backup safety calling plays? It would have to be a backup something. If it was easy to do they would have passed a rule already but they'll figure out something before next year, that's for sure.

Teams always have a defensive signal caller. Mike him. If he comes out for a breather his replacement would have the mike helmet.

Yep, it would not be that hard to do. Plus the coaches would find a way to make it work. Have 3 or 4 players with two helmets, one with a speaker in it and the green dot. One is your primary guy and if he is not in the game, you get your second guy to put his green dot helmet on and make the calls. Worst case is you have a few plays where no player on the field has the green dot and you just call out the defenses the old fashioned way. It can be done.

Suspending Belichek from a game would be a joke, imo, like kicking a baseball manager out of the game...everyone still knows who calls the shots. Do you really think Bellichek not being on the sideline of a game would make any difference? I seriously doubt it...for one thing, all the work for the game would already be done and the plan in place; for another thing, I'm sure he'd have some sort of communication going on.

I love the fact that he just lost 1/2 million dollars out of his own pocket. We all know the Pats are going to the playoffs, so no first round draft pick this year...that's really really huge. No one really expected it to be a #1.

I'm thrilled with the penalty, and I'm actually happy that he doesn't get to hide away from the camera this weekend...he's going to be there on the sideline, having his mug shown to viewers all over the world while the announcers talk about his cheating...he's going to have to address the questions before the game and after the game in the locker room.

For a guy like him (did you see him trying to refuse to discuss it on tv this week), this is going to be much harder on him than being suspended and being able to hide out of sight till it blows over a little. I think Goddell was either brilliant to avoid the suspension or just lucked into a more appropriate punishment. Hoodie can't hide from it....he's going to be out there in the middle of it all week long.

Very appropriate, imo.

I really think it would make a difference, maybe not for the first game, but for games 2,3,4.... You bet it would. If not why even have a head coach, if he doent make a difference?

If he was suspended he couldn't have any communication..period --same as Wade Wilson.

1/2 million dollars is how much he paid his "high priced call girl". -- chump change. And the Team fine of 250k is a fn joke!

My thought was this.

Mike the play caller --and have a backup helmet for the second starter you would rather have calling plays, if your other starter goes out.

This way a backup doesn't have to do it.

Just make sure the helmets are marked, and there's only one on the field at a time.

this is exactly what Belicheat said in a presswer. It does make sense too,you would need multiple players having it.

It's exactly the same thing as the backup QB. The only difference is he doesn't come in as otften - if ever.

It just makes sense that the guy thats cheating would make excuses about a solution that would stop it. (Funny thing because Mort said his defensive guys are already miked)

I'm sure next year they will figure something out, with defensive play calling, to stop the signal stealing by sobs like Belicheat.
