To me the best part is the continuity of having the same OC for another year. Romo should only get better, both as he refines his technique and also as he settles in more and understands what he sees on the field faster. The only real weakness of this setup is TO...who can control him?

In Buffalo - Wade was able to pick his own DC....that might not be the case in Dallas. Big difference.

I don't think it is necessarily a big difference and I don't think Jerry will stop him from bringing somebody in if that's what Philips wants to do. I would expect Jerry to ask him to consider Bowles but why would he force Bowles on him?

Good post, SP...

And you have to remember those pretty good numbers came playing in maybe the worst home weather in the NFL, and with no QB to speak of.

But those numbers are better than what most people would have expected, I bet. Love those high rushing attempt numbers... That should fit in well with Parcells' ball-control philosophy. (As much as I thought Parcells wore out at the end, I do love his philosophy of running the ball and playing defense.)

that worst home weather you speak of is a plus for that team when they are good, it is only considered bad weather when they are losing or when they have whiny players like willis mcgahee..

Believe me, I have been there in snow, rain, sleet and ice and it is only considered a hinderance during losing seasons, during winning seasons it is viewed as a positive.

Phillips is a power football guy just like parcells. The difference is he will unleash the dogs no matter the situation and no matter the secondary. The front 7 is coming no matter. That will be fun to watch.

Oh and flutie was very good those years, only parcells/belichick really negated him.

I agree it is a positive as far as winning games, but 10* and howling winds are still a hindrance to offenses. :D

But yeah, I can't wait. We've wanted sacks and havoc from our D for years. Now we're going to get it. We won't automatically be tons better, because we probably will give up more big plays. But at least we're not gonna sit back and passively get picked apart any more. And I bet our players have a lot more fun than they did.

Oops. Sorry SP, this was about Wade's offenses. :D

What in Phillips head coaching career makes you believe that he's overly aggressive?

I understand that San Diego's defense was aggresive when he was the coordinator there but nothing he's shown in his two full stops or his two interim jobs as head coach suggest that that's his overall philosophy.

I'm just talking about defense. It's well-documented how aggressive he is there.

I don't care about an aggressive offense. Frankly, the last thing I'd want is a Mike Martz who has no regard for the defense or overall game management.

Where is it well documented?

He had one really stellar year defensively in Buffalo in 1999 and having watched most of their games, that defense would better be described as solid with a few stud players than aggressive. Think of the '03 Dallas defense with Bruce Smith rushing the passer.

The "Music City Miracle" game shows everything that's wrong with him. He made two of the worst decisions I've ever seen a professional coach make, first starting Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie in that game then watching Johnson take a half dozen sacks in the first half. Then secondly, and more importantly, going the ultra conservative route and opting not to take more time off the clock before Steve Christie's go ahead field goal. Good clock management and the game's over, no kickoff, no "Miracle".

People forget though that the decision to start Johnson was pushed by ole man river himself, Ralph Wilson. Just goes to show, owners aren't always the best decision makers.

I know my memory is fuzzy and I don't really follow the Bills...but I too thought it was more of a management decision to get the Young guy in and not so much a HC decision.

AdamJT13 has the stats of how many times teams blitzed this year and the Chargers were one of the league's most blitzing teams last season, and I believe they blitzed about twice as many times as Zimmer did.

I watched his Falcons defenses and they were blitz heavy as well. While their defenses weren't great by any means, he got a lot more out of them than he should've since he had so-so personnel that really didn't fit the 3-4 scheme. From a personnel standpoint, I believe we are better than those Falcons defenses and we fit the 3-4 better.

As I said, there were rumors that that wasn't the real reason, but if it were, wouldn't that scare you even more?

A head coach who acquieses game day personnel decisions to the owner? Is that really a good thing in Dallas?
