Thanks for posting, but that is difficult to read.

Sorry, there is a lot of information there, so it's a bit condensed?

Also, my screen shows the full version, but you may need to click on the pic to bring up size options.

the things it doesnt tell you about though are the sacks and pressure numbers, as well as total turnovers forced...and Wade's teams were almost annually at the top or near the top in those categories

Yeah - but his completion percentage on passing has been pretty high the last few years for a great defense.

True, but it does tell you about Wade Phillips run defense, which is surprisingly stout. The theory I have heard since Wade took over was that his run defense would be a major weakness but these numbers show that his run defense was very effective. It's clear that Phillips likes to stop the run and force opposing teams to take to the air, where he can then let his pass rushers loose.

Sorry, couldn't find the sack numbers from 1981. Sacks may not have been an official stat at that point.

Thanks for doing the work...

For those who have been afraid that a smaller, quicker 3-4 would get run on, check out the run rank stats every year at SD. And 2004 was before Merriman and Castillo.

Wade will be as good as His players let Him be. And From what I'm reading Here he hasnt done anything amazing. His track record is average..

But I still like Him over BP. Our defense will be more aggressive and LESS predictable. And He wont over coach our Guys. Let them free lance from time to time.

That's some great information. Thanks much, smax.

It should be an exciting defense.

So, is it fair to say that the strength of the defense will be its disruptiveness (shutting down the running game and getting pressure) and the weakness will be vulnerability to the long pass?

Uncertain how to rate Mr Wade Phillips 25 year NFL football stats. But I can tell you what this chart is tell me ...

Wade Phillips coached, in some capacity, for 6 different NFL teams in his 25
years thus far ...Dallas is his 7th team.

Run Defense ...NFL Rank (over 25 years)

13th - in the NFL

Pass Defense ...NFL Rank (over 25 years)

17th - in the NFL

Observation: Where was wade Phillips in 2001?

Let's hope for Philadelphia's sake (not) that Phillips' defense doesn't have the same year this season as his teams had in '82, '83, '89, '00 and '01, eh? :wink2:

You might wanna check out the Pass Defense rankings for the last 4 seasons....

2003 - 32
2004 - 30
2005 - 30
2006 - 18

If I'm reading this right...those are terrible stats. :(

yards passing allowed isnt that big a deal...if you are a good team and always play with a lead, teams have to throw more which skews the stats somehwat...likewise if you are a bad team and always behind, teams will run the ball more on you

look at the rush defense, pts allowed and sacks...its impressive...

his career as a defensive mind is quite impressive

Shocking. Just shocking. :(

Saaaay! Did you know that the Patriots pass defense in 2001 was ranked 24th in the league? Now, that's shocking!

I wonder what happened to those guys that season...

;)

While he has some impressive years, his stats are as Ernie Crane (Raynor Scheine) said in My Cousin Vinny, "They was all over the road"

Geez, that's a lot of Sack and INTs.

smax, it looks like you have that in excel -- could you average those numbers out and come out with an "Average Wade Phillips Defense"? Thanks!

Nice spin on the facts.

I'd like to see Wade fix our secondary.

He doesn't seem to know how to do that.
