Nice spin on the facts.

I'd like to see Wade fix our secondary.

He doesn't seem to know how to do that.

spin? what spin? the guy knows defense...he gets pressure on QB's and gets alot of turnovers wherever he goes, two things we've been terrible at for years

and our secondary has alot more talent than the one he had in San Diego

Maybe the pass defense stats are bad because he never had a good secondary to work with anyway.hmmmmmmmmmmm

San Diego IMO has had a weak secondary for a while now. Our secondary is light years better than theres.:star:

Newman and Williams are stars.

The rest...?

Henry is a good CB when he is healthy, despite your constant complaints...Hamlin is at least as good as their safeties...Watkins may be as well depending on how much he's improved

on average, his Ds have given up a 57.4% completion rate

not bad
Not bad at all. The league average in '06 was slightly over 60% I think.

Why don't you average up all the numbers? That'd be might nice of you.

aha! I was wrong in my calculations

it's 56.4%

JMO, but I would weight the later years more heavily. I think it's cool that Phillips coordinated some of those good early Saints Ds that featured Rickey Jackson and the other LBs, but like he says in comparing the Denver job to the Buffalo one, he's grown and learned over the years.

What I like are the numbers from the last time he was a head coach -- number 7, 1, and 3 overall. And I don't remember many superstars in his last years at Buffalo. The studs like Bruce Smith and Cornelius Bennett from the Bills' Super Bowl teams were gone by then. (Check that -- Smith was there in 1999, but he was way past his prime by then.)

You guys make it sound like Wade is some sort of DC god.

He's not.

His D numbers are average to bad in a lot of categories.

I'll give him praise when it's due.

I'd weigh the later years heavier, too - they were better. :)

Buffalo had some decent players, I guess. Bruce Smith, Ted Washington, Sam Cowart, Marcellus Wiley. Cowart, Washington and Smith were all pro-bowlers for them.

Also, the passing yardage is an overrated stat. Most teams with good offenses give up alot of passing yards - especially teams sporting players like Quinton Jammer in their secondary. Anyone who listened to the PC yesterday knows this. :)

Geez, that's a lot of Sack and INTs.

smax, it looks like you have that in excel -- could you average those numbers out and come out with an "Average Wade Phillips Defense"? Thanks!

Here you go:

Observation: Where was wade Phillips in 2001?

PT

Something tells me this question was rhetorical but, just in case you were actually curious, Phillips was out of the NFL in 2001.
