ask me again in three years
More like ask me again at the end of the 2007 season... You know how we like to be instant evaluators.

I see the logic behind the hire, but it doesn't make me go jump for joy either.

I'm OK with Wade...and for the record I would have been OK with Norv as well.

For those who don't like the hire. Who would have been better?

Give the guy a shot. If it doesn't work out Fisher and Cowher will be available after next year.

I believe that if we fix the defense we can go far into the playoffs. Wade Phillips should at least be able to do that.

agree 100% if he isnt a bonafide winner in 07 he wont make it to 08. i say if he doesnt atleast win 10 games and a a deep playoff run. it's a new coach search in 08. or just go with garrett. which some would question aswell. its just a sad thing to see dallas being in the same category of mediocrity in the nfl.

I like the decision to hire Wade Phillips.

The team needs help at defense and the guy is brilliant with the defense. If he keeps his nose out of the offense, the team will be better.

Wanted Rivera. Didn't want Norv. Would rather not have Phillips.

i will support phillips. he was the best option available IMO.

the success of his tenure will be determined not only by his performance but by that of his co-ordinators (so lets see who is brought in) and the players.

if he does well, many that are reluctant now, will be happy and vice versa.

lets hope for the sake of our 'boys that he can deliver.

I wanted Ron Rivera and have stated the reasons why. Mainly I wanted a young, innovative coach that hasnt already proven he sucks as a HC like Phillips and Turner have. I'm sure many Saints, Bears, Bengal, Steelers, etc fans had/have the same anxiety about having an unproven coach. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesnt but going the safe, proven to suck route is not the way I'd prefer....

Not Wade - I would've rather had Norv but I'm not gonna bash Wade. I think we should at least give him a chance. I am leery of his past and I am concerned with the offense, but that seems to lie in 'ol Reds lap. Hang on to your lugnuts boys and girls, this board may get uglier..........

Phillips was the man for the job. We have 3-4 parts on defense and no one to run it. Defense wins championships, we all know it's a win now business, if our record goes south next season, he'll be gone. Book it!

Yep that's me... I'm a total Wuss right now.

Of all the candidates, I thought he would be the best hire. I wasn't impressed with any of the others when I looked at the total picture surrounding who were going to be included in the coaching triumvirate (hc/dc/oc).

Rivera was the sexy hire, but he would've been a rookie HC.

A rookie HC, rookie DC (tho Rivera would've picked Frazer, I wasn't impressed with Frazier's D in Cinci), and a rookie OC didn't give me any kinda confidence.

And the prospect of Norv as the HC literally made me want to puke.

I see a whole ton of posts on people trying to expouse there view on the hiring so that they can go on record. One thing i have loved about this board is the ability to go back and see what people were saying and call them out when they change their tune.

What I am looking for is just a simple one sentence saying whether you are for Wade or against him followed by a double space. After that say what you will in whatever manner you want. I cannot make anyone do what they dont want to but if we all do it like this then itll be easy to go back and read what peoples take was. Oh and dont wussyfoot about. Ill start:

I believe in the Cowboys signing of Wade Phillips.
I wanted to go young blood all the way across, but unlike many on the forum I did not have a candidate that I hated or was so passionate against that I had to make sure everyone knew.

Rivera was my #1 choice after Cowher who I knew was a no way.

I'm fine with this. The defense will be good.

As soon as we hired Garrett I was going to be happy no matter what.

The only team fans to compare to the 'boys would be the Steelers. They're a team coming of a sub-par season, but they're coming off a SB championship and are good enough to contend again.

The other teams you mentioned who went with young, innovative coaches had nothing to lose. Those teams were all wallowing in mediocrity and a lack of direction. They needed a shot in the arm. Sean Payton, Lovie Smith, and Marvin Lewis provided that.

Mike Tomlin of the Steelers is a wildcard and I prolly wouldn't have liked the hire if I were a Steelers fan.

100% for him.

Great pick, he is going to whip some of the lazy SOB's on defense into shape.

Do you think we havent been mediocre for 10 years? 0 playoff wins says it all to me.... but yeah the other teams lost more than us before they got their coaches but that isnt saying much. We've been in the same ballpark for a long time.

It's not about playoff wins/losses to me. It's about where the team is talent-wise when a new coach is projected to take over.

It would've been a more accurate comparison if you were comparing the 'boys coming off 3 consecutive 5-11 teams. I would prolly be more inclined to go with a completely young staff and let the chips fall where they may.

But with a team that was in the playoff and could be on the verge of really doing something, I think it's ok to go with a more proven option, who at least has demonstrated the ability to win.
