Wade Phillips Roll Call

For this place and time Wade is a very good hire. If he gives me an attacking D I'll back him till hell freezes over.

Given Wade or Norv, as much as I appreciate what Norv has done for this team in the past, I take Wade 100% of the time.

I'm for Phillips and am excited to have him here. No doubt he makes our 3-4 D very dominate. I have no doubt we win a SB during his tenure here. The talent is there.

Seriously the only way this would have been a horrible hire is if we had been a very young sucky team looking to rebound and build back up. but we are not so its a great hire IMO

I am disappointed that Wade Phillips was named HC of the 'boys! I was hoping for Ron Rivera. Put me down for "pissed in El Paso".

This hire was as good as we could have expected under the circumstances.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed it, but I would have been a bit discouraged if we'd hired a man named Norv.

I didn't notice it. You only mentioned it in every possible thread...:p:

It's not about playoff wins/losses to me. It's about where the team is talent-wise when a new coach is projected to take over.

It would've been a more accurate comparison if you were comparing the 'boys coming off 3 consecutive 5-11 teams. I would prolly be more inclined to go with a completely young staff and let the chips fall where they may.

But with a team that was in the playoff and could be on the verge of really doing something, I think it's ok to go with a more proven option, who at least has demonstrated the ability to win.

I can agree with you somewhat because this IS a talented team BUT what makes you think Wade will be able to motivate the team any better than Parcells or a new up and comer?? I present to you these numbers....

1989 - 93 (The Johnson Years):
44-36 regular season (.550 winning percentage)
7-1 playoffs (.875 playoff winning percentage)
51-37 total (.58 total winning percentage)
2 NFC Championships
2 SB titles

1989 - 97 (The Johnson Years + Switzer's Years (or Johnson's legacy years! LOL)):
84-60 regular season (.583 winning percentage)
12-3 playoffs (.800 winning percentage)
96-63 total (.60 winning percentage)
3 NFC Championships
3 SB Titles

AND SINCE THEN:
1997 - 2006
67-77 regular season (.465 regular season)
0-4 playoffs (.000 winning percentage)
67-81 (.453 winning percentage)
No titles of any kind

I am for Wade!!!

We need to fix the D and who else was available?? The younger sexier picks were not guaranteed and what even made Singletary that attractive for example. His own team would not make him the D coordinator. Who did they pick?? Someone who has been learning 3-4 D ropes from our NEW head coach Wade Phillips. So order me up some coolaid I'm getting thirsty.

Fire away Norv supporters.

I'm in. It will be nice to see our defense attack for a change.

I like the hire.

But unless he can fix the OL better than Tuna we're not going anywhere fast.

I don't know that he can or can't. I have a wait and see attitude about it all. I think that, of the candidates interviewed, he was the best choice.

When looking at the 1997-2002 era, pre-Bill, you're looking at team of aging stars, trying to hold on to the last dregs of a dynasty.

The Bill era I look at much like him. He was the transition era. This team is young and ready. Whether Wade can do it is debatable, but I think he's more qualified to do it NOW than a coaching staff of guys trying to figure it out.

And for all those that lament about how Jimmy did it when he got to the 'boys. He was a head coach coming in. He had plenty of experience and success as a HC BEFORE arriving in Dallas. So it's not like he didn't have a clue on what all needed to be done to run this team. Can't say that about the other non-former HC candidates.

I'm happy about. I really can't wait to see this D next year especially Ware.

Not my first choice but I'm OK with it. I'm willing to give him a chance. He's a decent coach. Better him than Norv IMO.

Wasn't my #1 pick, but probably my #2 guy since I wanted to stick with the 3-4.

My guess is we'll go something like 8-8 or 9-7, everybody will hate Wade and then we'll have a nice second season in 2008.

YAKUZA

Not my first choice, but I'll go on record as 12-4 or 13-3 in '07.

Of course if he'd have been Dallas HC in '06 Dallas would have been 11-5 or so and might have made the Super Bowl. The only thing that held Dallas back was a lack of imagination.
