The defense played a great first half, then totally sucked the second half.

The problem is this: You absolutely, positively cannot rely on this defense to just shut someone down. They play well in spurts, including some key stops (like Ware's sack to give our offense one last chance), but aren't going to dominate anyone.

If our offense can score 24-30 points, we have a chance to win. Anything less, and you're probably asking for too much. And there was a time not too long ago when 30 points was considered a fine showing for the offense -- these days, it's expected, and many a time still not good enough for the masses.

The Cleveland game was very, very good and the defense's play against Green Bay was outstanding. They were great for a half against Arizona, but then got bullied for a pair of lengthy, game-changing drives. You'd like to see more to hang our hats on.

Many fans for all kinds of teams are always calling for a new coach when the fan's expectations are not met. We're 4-2 with losses by 2 points in one game and in OT in another. One game was lost by the STs.

I got news for you. Most teams don't go undefeated. Happened twice in the history of the NFL. Most teams go thru trying times and injury. Even big winners.

Thinking the team will play significantly and consistently better depending on the coaches mentality is irrational and is emotional reasoning. Could a coach give a 'Gipper' speach. Sure. Every game and practice? NO.

Getting the right players on the field responding to the opposition in effective ways and getting them prepared to do that while putting them in positions to use their strengths properly and defend against their weaknesses is what a coach does. That's not the whole story by far but that's the ones being addressed here primarily.

If a coach has the experience and knowledge to win in this league all he can do is lead the team to water. He can't make them drink it.
