Hello All.....I am not a regular on this board nor am I a Cowboys fan, but I come in peace with a question out of pure curiosity. Do you guys find that Wade Phillips looks completely lost on the sidelines and when he finally realizes something good happens he cheers like he is a fan watching the game....not like a coach. I am not trying to provoke you, just had to see if I am the only one that thinks this.

Welcome to Cowboys Zone. I think most in here and around Cowboy Nation have thought at one time or still do that Wade looks like an idiot sometimes when he is happy about a big play or TD. But that's just him. Just a good ol' boy that is pretty laid back.

The players love playing for him. But that does not mean that he does not hold players accountable, although the media does not care to bring that up when they are jumping on him for the little stuff. It is what it is. Heck, I'm used to it now.

Look at Mike Tomlin, he acts more like a player on the sidelines, jumping up and shoulder bumping players and what not. He is no more than a cheerleader in my opinion. But the media chalks him up as being some sort of football god.

Every coach reacts differently on the sidelines.

Some morons want a super fire cheerleader like Gruden and swear only a coach like that can keep his player's attention.

Doesn't matter what the **** fans think. We see the coaches on the sidelines for what, 180 seconds at most during a game and have no exposure to them during the week. We have no idea what and how they conduct meetings, how they instill confidence or lack in such with their players, none of that.

Anyone who bases their coaching wish list on the sideline behavior of said coach is a certifiable Dumb *. I mean that.

To be fair, I think that there is elevator music perpetually playing in his headset as he waits for his coaching staff to "get right back" with him on a requested scheme or formation. That would be distracting to anyone. :)

I almost never see him talking on the mike, but they usually cut to him when we are on offense (don't think that he has too much input there) or when an opposing kicker misses a field goal. He doesn't seem to spend too much time talking to the players on the bench from what I've seen, but I don't think that that is his style.

Yep...100% agree

Wonder what CZ experts would be saying about Tom Landry's game day expression. "AUGHHHHH!!!! He always looks the same!!!!!!..."He doesnt get mad at people and its obvious he doesnt care!!!!!!"

I can tell you exactly what they say. "He cut so and so. He was a hard case that didn't need to say anything to get respect. He won the big games (conveniently forgetting the "Next Year's Champions" moniker). He ran tough camps." Blah blah blah.

I can't help but like Wade. He looks like a coach most players would love.
He seems to know how to coach defense. However, attention to detail may not be his strong suit---can anyone say dumb penaties?

If the players really like him, they will help him get into the playoffs and win a game or too. Otherwise, Wade's gone and they might not like the next guy.

I like Wade and think he's a decent coach but he does look stupid with that little fist pump he does.

To me it is about going out and winning games if Phillips can get the job done then great. I don't care about fan preceptions I only care about how the players respond to Wade and his staff.

What's the Blah, Blah, Blah reference, everything mentioned is a true and enviable characteristic of Landry. BTW, next year's champions was a reference to the expansion team Cowboys of the 60's who came close to greatness in their first decade and won a Superbowl two seasons later. Landry was a difference maker in the history of the sport winning for 20 consecutive seasons, Wade's legacy will be his fired coaches Coors Light spot that are probably working on now.

Thank God Wade can't jump or he'd break both his ankles celebrating field goals.

Wade has been coaching football since 1969 as an Assistant at Houston. No I dont think he acts "lost" on the sidelines...

No. I never got the impression he "looks completely lost on the sidelines". I'll never understand where this comes from.

I follow two teams close enough to speak intellingently on. The Cowboys and my local team the eagles.

In my opinion he's run a much better sideline than Reid since 2007. He's done a much better job with the key HC type of decisions.

That's actually a funny image. I don't begrudge him his enthusiasm, it's obvious that he cares. I do hope that our next coach isn't morbidly obese though, it's been a tough run in that department this decade.

I don't think I ever saw him act lost as an assistant, maybe because the camera man didn't care who he was.

I think the team occasionally takes their cues from the HC. And when he is lackadaisical on the sidelines, especially after a bad call or something, I think there could be some of that which rubs off on the players. They see the coach not all that worked up over anything and they think "Hey, no big deal."

I don't think Wade is lost. I just don't think he is a very good HC. Great DC though.

I don't think there's much to this, but I do have to mention this:

I've never seen a coach celebrate an opponents' missed field goal like Wade does. And I'm not talking about misses late in the game with the clock ticking down. I'm talking about first-quarter field goals.

It's like he won the lottery.

He likes touchdowns by his team, but nothing sends him into a euphoric, orgasmic high like watching the opposing kicker miss the up-rights.

I would not mind seeing him a bit more fired up after mistakes. Maybe he saves the lectures for the classroom and practice field.

For years I watched Landry stand on that sideline emotionless he looked the same win or lose, he also felt by him staying under control his team would stay under control. He dressed like it was a business meeting because to him this was business. It was who he was. As for Wade according to players he is not as "soft" as some make him out to be he clearly is not a fire and brimstone type guy but why should that matter how you get your point across is what should matter. Right now Mr. Tom Coughlin and his firey ways sure as hell has not been making a big differance as his team has hit a 4 game losing streak.
