I'm hoping Phillips can get through to James not cut him. Wade mentioned he was going to sit down and watch the film of this past season to get a feel for the players and their ability. Hopefully he can come in and have a big impact on guys like James.

At least in passing situations. Unless he makes a remarkable improvement in either coverage or rushing the passer, James should not be on the field in the nickel.

You know, I think Bill said last year that James could play every down but that he'd rather not have him in when we went to nickel.

Who didn't step up and take that nickel role from Bradie?

The head coach. He is in charge after all.

Phillips said he was going to go over the entire year of film on the boys. I hope he has a barf bag when he gets to the part where Bradie couldn't keep up with anyone running around in pass routes.

great post!

Im not trying to be mean here...but this is quite possibly the most illogical post I've ever read.

Why dont we put TO at halfback, and move Patrick Crayton into the starting role, move JJ to TE, and Witten to center?

I woke up at 5:30 terrribly hung over and in a very bad mood. Since coming home from work I've read a thread in which silverbear and co. gave squirtgun a e-whoopin' and now this. My mood is greatly improved.

Carp, for one probably. I think he had too much on his plate. He never really started to come around until they had him at just one position. OLB, ILB, nickel end at times.

Who else was there? Ayodele? Fowler? Singleton?

Not a lot of options. James was surprisingly good in the nickel in 2005

He's played made 12 solid games in 4 years and completely fell apart once he got his $$$.

He had teammates calling him out for talking but not backing it up.

He has never shown the ability to make plays behind the LOS, or get to the QB, and has ranged from average to down right terrible in coverage.

We have the cap room, if he doesn't get it together I wouldn't bet against him getting cut or traded, especially if we move Carpenter or Burnett inside.

Z it's not often I disagree with you but I thought James played the first half of 2006 at an acceptable level.

But truthfully I think he's going to get 2007 to shape up or then he'll be shipped out.

James isn't gonna get cut. But I would like too see him benched and replaced by Kevin Burnett.

Burnett is 230 lbs.. Might as well put Roy in there... And BP said he cant keep his weight up during the season.

And dont say Donnie Edwards is 230 also.. Burnett is no Edwards.

Or at least not yet:rolleyes:

Unfortunately, I don't see how Burnett was any better in coverage or rushing the passer than James was. I'd put Carpenter in over James. I actually liked Carpenter's cover skills and in general, was impressed with his play in space. If he can work on his run defense, I really think he can be a very good 3-4 ILB.

can we TRADE him then???

probably im pretty sure if u trade a player their bonus can be put put on the cap in two yrs instead of 1. but i think james will be in dallas. and will be the starter next yr. i say this is the starting core next yr

solb carpenter/ellis
ilb akin
ilb james
wolb ware

they might bring in somebody to challenge the middle, but i dont think any big name. too much money invested in this group. especially the middle. thats 37 million over 5 yrs, and a total of 13 mil guaranteed for akin and james combined. thats not chump change. along wth their prorated money. u ahve to take all that into account in wanting these players traded or released. especially after barely signing the contract.

i can see dallas drafting a OLB later in the draft. but dallas is fine on the outside, with ware, ellis and carp. they need to improve by coaching and playing smarter on the inside. what people should be hoping for is a DE. all these De's in dallas and they still cant find a good combination. maybe they prosper this yr, but i doubt it. they just dont seem to have the ability to get off any block.
